been itching to buy or build a hot rod ('30s Ford) and started to look at full fibreglass kits and chassis. Anyone experience doing so and if so any particular brands (Canadian or US)? Anything to watch out for?

Tks!

yes I did come across their web site. 20 grand for a complete kit plus you need motor/wheels/paint etc. By the time one is finished it will be up there in price. Wonder if their body kits would fit on a S-10 p/u chassis?

factory five look like nice kits. i wished i would have ordered when the dollar was better. i wanted a 34 3 window.

Always wondered if people actually use these kits.... Dont know why you guys wouldn't have just made an actual rod out of one! Kind of defeats the purpose of making something "custom and one off" if you start with the same thing as everyone else....

not sure if I fully understand what you saying. In my case, I don't have the patients or time to build one from the frame up from a original car plus you rarely get what you put into it. On the other hand, with a kit, you can do a lot on your own with good "bones" and still enjoy the looks of one even though it is a kit car. A buddy of mine is building a 46 GMC p/u. 4 years later still in the shop as time is limited to build to his satisfaction. Granted he will have a one of a kind but lots of bucks and time is necessary.

Just a suggestion, I would be in the same boat as you patience and time would be issues, what about buying a rough but solid version of what you want with most of the work done and tweak it to what you want. There is not very many custom cars that retain a large percentage of there build value. (Of course there are exceptions). Or buy something that is dated but complete and take it down clean it up and rebuild... simple and quick

I have thought about that too but not very much around that is would make it an easy build. I guess patience is a virtue :)

Sadly it's not like buying a quad or something where you look at kijiji find one and go buy it. It might take years for the right one to come up for sale. Why don't you wait till Barrett Jackson sale to come around? They sell cheaper ones that don't make tv.

not a bad idea. Maybe a road trip to AZ is necessary this January (I believe that when Barrett Jackson has their auction). :)

TBH I haven't thought of a budget yet as I have been researching more so for kits. I know a buddy of mine bought one for $15 grand a couple years ago but I think those are tough to find. I would probably double that if the right one comes around but prefer cheaper the better :)
