Anybody tell me what the cold climate protection entails.

they use a line for the intake so it does not freeze up. Please stick with the name brands here, they are quiet and the run... did i mention they start good and run. Not to mention when they break parts are easy to find. The knockoffs use an internal regulation rectifier that cannot be repaired.its embedded in the windings of the inverters. i have heard of some running a long time, however then its just a gamble. And light is not always better. rotating mass of the units will assist with harmonics and large load starting.

I have the Honda 3000 it Is heavy but works great. Stay with a Japanese brand you'll be glad you did.

we had a 1980 Suzuki 1000 till 2000, never missed a beat out camping, then moved onto a old farm near Barrhead, where we had frequent power failures., so bought a Wal Mart Coleman 2800. kept it in the porch or it would never start sitting outside,it had over 1000 hours on it when sold at Garage sale last yr for same price paid for it .now have a Chinese 2800 with remote start. . only drawback is the weight, over 100 lbs.was 799.00 at Parts Plus in Spruce Grove.

I can vouch for the Yammy 2400i...GREAT little genny. I have had one since before I started motorhome camping (trailer days) and can vouch that it WILL run the rooftop AC. The Yams and Hondas are right on par with each other and are excellent, reliable choices.

That depends on the type of ac unit, not all 13500 units are the same. I have a 2800i Yamaha and it would start my ac unit on my okanagan no prob. My new trailer has a 13500, and no way will the same generator start that ac unit, even honda mentioned that their 3000 will start most 13500 ac units, same btu just a different brand. Very disappointed but I really like that generator, it's a inverter style, light and fits under my sled deck with the ramps.

Some say it will run a AC ..would it run a trailer microwave? I hardly ever use either the AC or the microwave. But was curious

my old 2200 honda would fire my AC on my old 26' sportsmen if I set the fan to low and the thermostat to high, then turn it down until the compressor kicked in, then turn the fan to high. any other order and it was no go....lol. it would run the microwave no problem

There is a soft start kit for your ac units most of the rv dealers should be able to point you in the right direction for it. I have a Honda 3000 a little heavy for 1 person. And the Yamaha 2400 is an awesome generator either way you can't go wrong. Also be aware some of the old generator type will blow boards in the fridges of newer rv's. Cost me just over a hundred for a new board, my Kawasaki/Coleman generator blew it up for me.

T&T has a 2800 for a bit more money. Just kinda on the fence with the decision

Soft start kit?? Humm I'm going to have to look into that. I really like my 2800i it's a little louder than the others but its light to pack around.

You could install it yourself (read instructions...big shock potential) as it is just a different starting capacitor. Looked at them when I was having AC issues a couple years ago.
