Ironically I put a hitch lock on the sled trailer last week simply because I had come across it in the garage and it was convenient. This morning I am thankful that it worked out that way because that $8.99 lock saved me a world of headache and $15G insurance claim. Woke up to a bark blue suburban in my driveway backed up to my trailer (had a loud performance exhaust, crooks are stupid) When I looked out the window a guy was attempting to hook up the trailer but the hitch lock complicated things just enough that as I watched them drive away it was without my trailer instead of watching the trailer and 2 sleds roll away. I know if someone wants your chit enough they will get it, but thieves are lazy and often not too bright so complicating things just a little can help, from now on I will always ensure she's locked.

I had one on my trailer and it didn't stop them. I now have another better one, as well as a "boot" like they use for DUI's and..... just to be sure, they never leave my garage unless my ass is on one of them and my eyes on the other. Insurance sucks, even with full coverage I took a decent size loss.

I'm sure had I not been home that the lock would have made no difference, just happened to be enough of a delay for me to spook them.

I would suggest chaining to something else or parking something in front of your trailer?

Daughters car is usually in front of it but she stayed at a friends last night...... Sled trailer is going into the garage with the dogs and the 4runner can sit outside.

If u have a 2 inch trailer coupler

Then they just need a 1.7/8 to get ball inside and drive away, if trailer falls off truck they keep driving lol

Get a wheel lock, hitch locks don't do much as they just use the safety chains to wrap and go.

I had one of these on my trailer and what they did was slid it over to one side and used the bolt cutters and snipped it off. Now what i do is put washers on it so they can't slide it anymore from side to side. I also remove the jack when it is hooked up to the truck so they can not lift it off the ball. Anything to slow them up, but i do still have all my stuff.

i pull the tongue off my enclosed, then wrap the safety chains around the the jack and put several locks on the chains, then they at least have to work a little to get the locks off and figure out a way to attach it to the vehicle

Again if they want it they CAN get it..... my hitch lock worked as a deterrent today, maybe it won't tomorrow but for now I still have a trailer with 2 sleds (boxed in with trucks in my driveway)

My enclosed has a round tongue on it, I have 2 different locks on the tongue of it.




1 is a "pin lock" so that the coupler cannot be slid back



The other is a universal coupler lock just so they can't set it down on a ball.

for that type of hitch you could have a welder fab up a piece of pipe that slips over the tongue and the lock is inside a protected box , if you had the materials it would take less than an hr to make and almost bombproof

I use both of these lock as well as a highly visible wheel lock on the wheel. As stated earlier in thread if they want em bad enough they will get em but these locks will discourage most lowlife assh%$es. Glad you still have your stuff Ian. When we goin ridin?
