So just wondering what happens with the follow up appointments after the out of country or province surgery? Do you go back to where the surgery got done or do you go and do the follow up with your local doctor?

I’d be interested to know that too, have a friend who had major cancer treatment in the states, was told by Dr’s here that if he went there for treatment to not come back to see them he was on his own! Rang the cancer free bell down in AZ this fall when they didn’t give him much hope up here!,

My cousin met a US surgeon on the golf course in Arizona 5-6 yrs ago. The surgeon asked him why he was limping and he said was waiting patiently in Alberta for a knee surgery. Dr told him he would do it in Montana. Cousin said I’m sure you would but probably lots of money. Dr said how’s $3500 sound? Cousin had it done and said was best money he ever spent. Had to go down a couple days early for blood work etc and Dr sent him home a day after the surgery and said he could come back for follow up and physio or get it done in Alberta. Not sure what he would have charged Allan if he showed up at his office but that was a great deal for meeting on a golf course.

Just a little more info from someone who went through the out of province procedure.. for you poor guys suffering in pain. However some may not have the cash flow others do. She got the ceramic version of the hip which cost more money... and now her other hip is screwing up so she went in here to get on the list. They went through all the x-rays and test and told her, we will not even put you on the list until we determin your hip needs surgery then you can go on the waiting list. Not good new but at least it is some news. She was on the plane home from quebec 2 days after her surgery. They live in mexico 6 months a year so for some reason they did not get the surgery there.

Stayed in Arizona for eight days after surgery. Surgeons physio guy came to house on day 2 and gave the program for her to follow and trained me to coach her thru exercises
Day 5 he came back and checked on her. He keeps surgeon informed on progress.
Day 7 follow up with surgeon and given go ahead to fly home. Follow the physio regime for next months and surgeon has texted her several times to see how it is going. That is it.

All pre op tests were arranged thru family physician in Alberta.
