High Avalanche Hazard 3 km east of Golden to 17 km east of Golden (14 km). Closed. Estimated time of opening: 8:00 am MST Sunday January 16. Confidence level: low. Next update: 12:00 pm MST Saturday January 15. Alternate EB route: Hwy 95/Radium Hot Springs then Hwy 93 to Castle Junction. WB route: Hwy 93 to Radium Hot Springs, Hwy 95 to Golden. I gotta get to Rogers Pass for work at 7am tomorrow morning. Not looking to good to go anytime soon. Im coming from Sicky BC.

I would lean more on the optimistic side and say EXTREME.. With the freezing rain, we are into some real weird conditions that will be apparent from now till next week till the weather patterns change.

We went to Quartz yesterday...highway was closed. We have never seen little avys along the highway heading West just outside Golden. About 7-8 slides came onto the highway and took out the Westbound lanes. This was just from the high banks along the road...enough to take out a car for sure! You can see why it was closed for avy danger if this was what was happening there. The danger would have been very high for travelling through the Rogers Pass those are Doozies through there!!!!

The trucks in Golden waiting was INSANE and the amount of snow was INSANE...seemed like more than usual on highways. It's melting today and going to be a huge mess!
