I have run 87 in my 11 a few times to get out of the mountains, ran no different than 91, no codes, it wasn't something I'd suggest to do as they specify 91 as that's how they're engineered but I have several friends who get free fuel when in camp and run it in 09-10-11-13 cats and nobody's ever melted down or had a problem yet, I think people are pretty overkill on this site a lot of the time, look at any threads regarding oil and you'll see it

probably nothing will happen, someone will have a horror story though. Its recommended that you run higher octane, as it is in any high performance equipment. I personally mix in a gallon of c-111 with my 91, is it necessary? no but I do it.

out of all them replies knowone answered his question. to answer your question. higher octane fuels burns slower and produces less heat. hence less detonation. plus ive found fuels like chevron 94 are not pipe line fuel. they truck it in. way cleaner. take a clear container when ya fill up with regular fuel next time. couldnt believe the color and crap in the bottom of the can.
finally thank you and yes the same with 2 strike oils I checked out the bottom of a container of regular ufa oil and was amazed by the sluge and crap in the bottom (I only run cats oil)
