ok yea ill try that...still dont know how to get the airbox off...ill try pulling a few more times...see what step dad thinks then maybe go from there...if i can get it started and its held open i know my problem is with that

You need to make sure that the carbs are in sync, can't just start turning the nuts at the top of the slides. Here's how I sync my carbs:

Take a 1/8" drill bit and lay it in the throat of the carb on the airbox side (carb slide cutout side), then using the cable adjuster nut, raise or lower the slide until it just touches the bit. Once it is touching, screw the idle screw in until it just touches the slide. Do this for the other carb as well. Pull the throttle to the grip (wide open) and tape/zip tie it there, and check the wide open throttle sync making sure that both slides go all the way up without any hanging down (I set mine flush with the top of the carb throat).

Here is a link to the Mikuni Carb Tuning manual for VM series roundslides. All that you need to know is in there.
http://www.mikuni.com/pdf/vmmanual.pdf

Here is Mikuni's website, there is more information on how your carb functions and what functions each part performs etc. Lots of good info under general tuning and performance tuning. I recommend reading all this info, it will really help you get the most out of your setup.

Is it just one side that is flooding? both? Are you sure its flooding? Did you check to make sure that one or both needles are not hanging up when you put the slides back in (and keeping the slides propped up in the throat? Need more info.

Good info modman. I just find it strange that it floods after installing the extension.

Yep. My post was in relation to the carb syncing, until he gives more info, the carb flooding could be caused by anything (but you're right, suspicious on the extension). If he did not remove the carbs from the sled, he may have his needle hanging up in the carb throat. He may also have knocked some debris/dirt loose and have a piece lodged in the float needle and seat, etc. Pull the extension off and see what it does without it. If it works fine, then it is the extension, as you mentioned.

If the plugs are not wet, then it is not flooding, it may be that the extension cable is too long and the slides are not moving until 1/2 throttle. Any # of issues.

What he needs to do IMO is take the carbs out of the boots but still leave them hooked to the cables, then play with the throttle and see what's going on. First thing to do is sync the carbs, this way you know if the throttle cable is too long/short whatever and can adjust as necessary.

I made the same mistake with the first one I ever installed. Sync'd the carbs on the bottom, didn't bother to do the top, just assumed (my mistake) that the pull would be the same with the new cable and throttle block. oops. Got to the hill and couldn't figure out why it was only pulling 7200 rpms. Looked into carbs and saw they were about 3/4 open, tightened cable and moved lever position and she was good to go. My point being that it is probably something little that may be causing the issue.

If you added the extension and you didn't change anything else then I wouldn't start messing with your carbs. A powermadd extension will not make you carbs out of sinc. Pull you extension off and hook the original cable back up and see if it starts. Make sure you don't have too much play in the cable or the safety switch on your throttle won't work. If your thumb lever is too loose it is the same as having the kill switch on.

There is no safety switch on his sled for the throttle.

Disconnect the throttle cable at the throttle lever and try it..... Sounds like the throttle lever has a higher ratio lever.... I had this happen on my '04 rev 800ho we just built..... Used the handlebars and lever off an "x" model, but the cables and everything else was a highmark model....... They have different ratios, and when i started it, it idled very high too, and i couldn't back the idle adjustment off far enough, so i changed the throttle lever(thumb flipper) and all was good.............

did you try and start it with the throttle cable undone first, to see if it idles properly? Then worry about what to doo with the throttle lever..........
