Help! How old before inpection needed ?

How old of a car can I buy without it needing a inspection for insurance,I heard 10 years but would like to know as Im looking at a bunch of beaters for a gas saving comutter!

yup should be 10 model years,,,,,

otherwise a basic safety is required,,,

if you have a friend thats a mechanic... he should be able to go through the checklist for you

at least thats all it was for my car

10 years is the norm, but if you have a good relationship with your insurance company they may believe you that the vehicle is fine even though it is on its last legs lol.

yes its a simple inspection,,

brakes work....
lights work
signals work
tires are not bald
windshield not cracked (some will let this slide)

ok pass

bout it and same applies to out of province....

Thanks for all the replies,wont be an out of province one I assure you but will be going to the insurance company tomorro and check,buy a cheap car and have to pay 4 grand for repairs would really take the gas saving plan right out the window!

10 years or 12 years depending on the company but i can honestly say i have never been called on it, usually they will insure it and tell you to get the inspection, then you will never hear of it again....i can get more detailed info when the g/f gets home, she's a broker.....now i have no insurance issues at all :D

Kool................that sounds pretty easy,havnt bought a beater for about twenty years LOL!Tried a chev once,should have bought a beater LMAO!

I just did the same thing last week. Bought a '93 Ranger ext cab 4x4 at an auction in Rimbey. Paid $1200, drives like a dream. It's fun having a little truck to kick the sh!t out of. My insurance company (Cooperators) gave me the form, it says anything over 12 years needs an inspection..

funny thing my insurance company never says anything to me ever. had a 91 f150 350k thought for sure needed one but didnt say a dam thing lol

Really depends on the comany I find if I walk into the insurace company wearing my work coveralls no insp, plain close i need an insp. Kinda funny.

Im with state farm never needed a inspection, from a 77 trans am, 94 chev 3500. And a 97 chev 1500. They never batted a eye. It was all done over the phone:beer:
