Heat, check engine lights, blown motor

Posting for a friend,hope some one can help him. 2018 850. Last ride of last season check engine light came on a dozen or so times. Finally got the sled down the hill and Took it in just this past fAll. Dealer said there isn't anything wrong. When he got it home we took the hood off and found the exhaust pipe sensor was out and burnt a hole in the airbox. ( dealer never even removed the hood). So we figured that could have been the issue. Headed west and day one the engine light was on again. The motor gets really hot in any snow conditions on or off the trail but yet the temp gauge never rises? The engine light just comes on and it goes into limo mode and starts bogging. Shut it off, wait a few mins and it will run again. Day three of that trip the motor finally seized solid. Dropped it back at the dealer, they put in a new top end and gave it back. No idea why it blew. Took it west once again to find it doing the exact same thing!!!! Dealer once again checked it out and said the engine light isn't throwing any codes and they have no idea. Nothing wrong with it they say. Guys this can't be that hard to figure out. Motor is over heating but heat exchanger isn't getting overly hot. Any advice? Going to start calling dealers cause wilerton isn't doing ****.

****ty luck but did you ever think to ride it at home first before you went back to the mountains. You can’t always count on the dealers. Just a thought. Good luck

I'm not here to bash willertons, just stating what went on. He is dropping it off at the dealer in North battleford tomorrow. Obviously it's over their heads.

Sounds similar to what was happening to my buddy. He took his aftermarket can off and put the stock muffler back on and problem solved. Our guess was the over heat light was coming on because of egt even though his temp gauge was reading normal.

a friends 850 did the same thing went back to Banner in Vernon 6 times and they couldn't figure it out and it was using antifreeze, finally took it in to Base Camp a dealer in Calgary and they figured it out in less than a couple hrs, it ended up needing a new water pump and then the problem was solved. it took 2 seasons to get it figured out. If it was my sled i would take it elsewhere for a second opinion and a fresh look from a new set of eyes, hopefully it still has warranty and he can get it sorted out. good luck and let us know how it ends.

The guys at Banner couldn't find a fat chick in a busy Walmart on welfare Wednesday.

The same guy now owns RTR in Kamloops and several other dealers. He has turned them all into pure hell holes. I used to frequent RTR, now I wouldn't walk in the door if they gave me a $1,000 and had Cameron Diaz there to give me a BJ.

Management needs to be good, for a dealership to be good. Take Forest Power Sports in Prince George, they long ago were great, now have so many terrible staff, they even lost KTM. KTM bikes sell themselves basically, but they screwed up so badly they lost the right to be a dealer. It is going to another dealership there. Seeing how they lied to me, and treated me, it isn't surprising at all. If managers actually managed their businesses, and properly trained the staff, they would be liked, thus making a lot more money because they would be busy. I don't think Forest Power Sports has any sort of leadership at all!
