The problem is these activists base their arguments loosely on science, but primarily use fear mongering to get media and public attention, and the average uneducated public cannot distinguish between actual fact and the misleading information provided by these groups. But as noted with the increase in funding to these groups their voice and audience only grows larger, and when multiple activist groups contest the same issue the chances of having a project go through are very slim.

What needs to happen is Harper needs to stand up and say enough is enough, and force an energy corridor to be allocated through to the coast of BC so all these pipelines can be run on one route avoiding many environmentally sensitive areas, as I doubt Mulcair or Trudeau have the want or the ability to do such a thing. If this would happen it might slow the flood of US advocacy dollars flowing to these groups, until then the hands of Alberta industry will be tied.

its only going to get worse now that Harper's attn will be focused on survival based on the poll results today with the Libs gaining considerable ground with 1 year to election time.

It will be a sad day for canada if the liberals get elected. Can't believe there are people in this country with low enough intelligence to vote for trudeau. I guarantee he will try and take even more money from the west to give to his beloved Quebec

I agree. It absolutely blows my mind that Trudeau has become the shiny pony that he is. The guy is an absolute complete and utter moron. And that doesnt come from any entrenched conservative bias. I objectively vote for the best politician and/or party that is going to do the best thing for my country or province. Trudeau just doesnt have a clue. He is an idiot. Hes a drama teacher for crying out loud, and people think he can lead a country? The problem is that Harper isnt the answer either. I loved the guy when he was first elected but am really disappointed with what he has done with his time in office. When will we elect a leader (or even have the option to elect a leader) that honestly tries to do what is best for Canadians.

My vote will be for the party that is willing to deal with indian affairs. Its time the free handouts end. Welfare system needs to be straightened up. Less free handouts and race payments would mean more money for education and medical needs.\

my 2 cents

well you better do you homework buddy before you call me pathetic because Harper got my vote in the previous election. On the other hand, I have said MANY times that ALL politicians are all self serving and they only look at retaining power once elected by promising the world. So, the person that gets my vote next time is going to have to show me a lot of integrity….. probably hard to do though considering their nature.

Exactly! I agree with you 100%. So would most of Canada's tax payers. Problem is, we don't have activist groups, rally's, or squeaky wheel politicians and lawyers working for us. We are to busy working to pay the bills to organize a bitch fest about how bad we have it. It's time for all members of society to pull their own weight regardless of race, age, background or sexuality. No one is entitled or deserve a free ride.

If some can give me a good reason otherwise, I would like to hear it.

you need to get laid as your posts are starting to show some animosity. Who I vote for is my business and certainly not yours. Thats the nice thing about this country, we get to choose based on our own personal beliefs and not brainwashed by those who allow it.

Would love to hear what your expectations of Harper is or was. What did he not do while he has been in office?

Id like to see a leader that thinks ahead a bit. That invests in research and technology. That promotes developing our own natural resources rather than letting foreign companies come in and rape and pillage the land and pay us pennies on the dollar for it. Dont get me wrong, Im not some anti-oil hippy. Im from Alberta and until we come up with something better, we are dependant upon fossil fuels. I just think that our government can do a much better job of backing Canadian owned companies, increasing royalties, promoting refining and manufacturing here, and then using some of the money derived from this to support research and development on new energy technologies. We really are in a position to be leaders, and instead we are selling out Canadians to rich foreigners.

Yup I agree with you on all accounts. I do think though that any leader of Canada is going to have his hands strapped to a certain extent by all the no good for nothing special interest groups who are well funded as per the OP news article. Harper may not have lived up to some of our expectations but I think he has made some good changes from the bleeding heart Liberal gay way of governing.

I agree with a lot of what has been said. I am getting tired of always voting for the best of the worst, not just federally but provincially and municipally too. Harper was a great choice to get us through the economic downturn, no surprise as he is a Conservative and an economist. However, I think he is becoming self serving and spending his efforts in the wrong areas. The omnibus bill really rubbed me the wrong way, that was sleazy.

Unfortunately E1966 was right about being in survival mode with a year to the election and unfavourable poll results. Don't expect him to pull off anything regarding pipelines until after he has been voted back in.
