Hauling camper with 18" or 20" wheels/tires

Just got a 2015 f350 long box. came with factory camper package and 18" wheels. looking at getting a set of aftermarket wheels and tires but not sure on wheel size. i have heard that the 18" will have a bigger weight capacity than the 20" but i am also thinking that the 18's would flex more side to side? kinda like the looks of the 20's better as well. anyone hauling with the 20's. or should i stick with the 18's.

I haul with 20's. Haven't had any issues yet. I'm pulling a 35ft camper bumper pull thats just over the 10,000lb mark.

Wont matter as long as they are decent wheels.

ya i guess both sizes have there pros and cons? maybe leaning towards the 18's. should be a little softer ride?

Correct me if I am wrong.
I know GM and Chev. Same .
1 tons only come in 18 inch wheels due to loads capacity
. One ton not available with 20 inch wheels from factory. Not sure on Ford or Dodge?

Ford for sure comes 20" wheels factory on f350. Not sure on dodge but don't the 2015 Denali trucks come with the 20" wheel option on the 3500's

Denali in 3/4 ton in 20 inch only.
Does the ford with 20 inch have same load capacity?

Not sure on the ford load capacity. I am leaning towards staying with the 18" wheels now. Just kinda makes sense. I will forfit some looks for better off road ability. I don't 4x4 hard at all but will be taking the camper on some back roads and will be taking just the truck into some fishing holes that get a bit rough some times.

I run a SB camper with a slide in a 12 F350 with Factory 20's. Your only real tire options are either Durtracs (which i chose) or KO's to get off roadabaility as well as load rating.

I used to run the same truck with 18's and i dont notice much difference other than cost of rubber

The two i mentioned are the two main contenders when load capacity and aggressive tread pattern is wanted. I should have elaborated more in my post.

Your correct on the 18" carrying more options

I have a 2009 f350. Had to do the following. Add a extra main leaf on rear springs. Install better over load springs. Came with continental tires all where recalled junk. ford gave me news ones ,lasted two weeks. Side on them had bulges and had no weight safety factor. Changed to toyo open country 11. Box of truck is not flat camper will rock. Bottom of box by tail gate will break as no support under it. Front of box the top tube will bend had to put a 2x4 at bottom to protect it. Satellite rado will not work as camper covers the antenna. Breaks would not stop truck when loaded. Ford super duty?????????????????

My dodge handles my new camper great. Coming back from Cali doing 80mph with ease. Running 18" rims which are factory. I agree with the sat radio. It sucks as the ant is blocked. Been looking into the second ant near the grill idea.

It isn't going to matter, as long as the rims and tires are both rated for the weight.

I have 2011 f-350 crewcab long box. Diesel. I haul a 9.9 Kodiak truck camper and also tow my 24' enclosed behind. I installed air bags and also changed the receiver to a 20,000 lb double receiver. 24" extension. I have plywood sheet on 4" blocks in the box. Satellite radio works well with this rise as it provides more clearance above the roof.Also using 18" rims with 35" Toyo tires.
