i have a 2010 dragon with about 280 miles on it and had the check engine light and detination happen at about 200 miles. change the plugs and sled ran perfect all day. at the end of the day on the trail out about 70 miles later the check engine light came on again and was dettinating. sled was running normal temp and not overheating, running about 124 degrees no temp light or nothing. shut off engine and started again and problem went away for about five minutes and then came back. just wondering if anyone had this problem or what it might be. i am gonna take sled to dealer to look at it.

most likely running bad gas or gas with ethanol in it. Make sure your wires are plugged or un plugged according to the type of fuel your running. also make sure your running premuim.

thanks. yah i always run premium in it and i am pretty sure the fuel that day was non ethonal added gas. but there might have been a problem with moisture in the fuel because a day before my sled was in the garage with the heater on and that same night i loaded it up on the sled deck. i have not touched the wires on the sled for fuel yet, so it is set up whatever is stock. but i am pretty sure when i gassed up at petro-canada on the number one highway just out of calgary, there was nothing stated on the pump that their fuel contained ethanol.

I notice you said on the trial out when this happened. Was the first time on the trail in? The 09' and 10' 800 had a lean spot in the midrange. Maybe this culd be the issue?

yah might be the problem, but why would the light not stay on? my first time on break in nothing came up. and everytime after shutting down and restarting the light would not come on right away.

Have you done the recent update's from Polaris yet? My buddies 2010 Assault was doin that, and by the end of the day the machine would start shutting itself down. He'd could get maybe a kilometre and it would shut down again. Long trip out. I thought it might be a stator. It ended up being the regulator, they have an update to replace it and relocate it under warranty. Also i think there was some other ECM update's.

thanks, yah i will get the dealer to have a look at it. i heard some guys having problems with the voltage regulator and if there is a new update out then i will see if they can do it. i thought it had all the updates on it already because i bought it in june, but maybe not.

No problems with mine! 255 miles
I believe there was an August reflash though, which you wouldn't have if you bought it in june.

sound like mid range stumble, running about 5500-6500rpm.light comes on when engine sense's detonation if held there long enough computer will go to safe mode.have dealer pull all codes out and have them reset TPS adjustment and install latest reflash. my 09 dragon never ran right till they changed lower injector harness and the stator.I think it was the stator all along, never had any problems with the regulator, thats about the only thing they never changed.
good luck

thanks for all the replies. i talked to the dealer and they told me a problem like this sounds like bad fuel. low octane. the also told me even with running a 91 octane you should have your fuel change wires unplugged and if you ever have your engine detonating because of bad fuel unplugged them wires first. and just wondering what is the deal with all these re-flashes. what does a reflash actually do?

Reflash changes the fuel mapping, last one added more fuel to mid range.Mine was bogging bad in mid range, once they got my tps set proper it runs fine.I have the second last one,no need for last one.My buddy has 800 shift and he has the second last one.I think no two are alike, there settings are all over the place.

My dealer told me plugged for premium; unplugged for low grade, ethanol blended or suspect fuel. The manual says the same. This is my first Polaris, you guys gotta quit dickin' me around with this wire thing:confused:

got a 2010 assualt (stock) and reflash Late feb 2010 when I installed new track (stock one junk). I plug my wire in always and run shell gold ALWAYS.

FYI I have an ethonol tester from briggs and straton and I didn't find any in Shell or Perto can premiums in Sicamous.

I will say since the last reflash I have lost a few rpm up top. 8050 vs. 8200.

usually not looking down could have been that one pull up the hill because the guys were asking

What does the owners manual state the required octane is for this sled?

It does nothing but waste your money using anything higher than what the owners manual says unless you have increased the compression.

The wire plugged in or unplugged is only to compensate for ethanol or non ethanol fuel, not the octane rating.

should run minimum 91 octane. I have always run wires plugged in, shell v power with some octane boost and a bottle of gas line antifreeze with water remover. I have never, never had a problem with any bogging or detonating. Thats running the original 2010 flash on my old dragon and then the february flash on my current rmk.
