I knew this thread was gonna turn into this !!
Love it, Harley guys just have to defend there brand !
I don't understand it but that's the way it is.
I really like all the "jax" look a likes out there, now that s.o.a is so popular.

Lol...Sounds kind of like all the hardcore doo riders talk and the doolaid that they want to spike the water coolers with.

I'm not defending the brand. If I wasn't riding one, I'd be on something else. For myself personally, I couldn't get past the god awful look of the victory cross country touring, and for what it is worth, the resale on the HD will be better down the road. Goldwings are sweet, but the riding position just doesn't "fit" me. In any case, try a few different makes & models, buy the one that fits your budget, and simply ride.

haha I like doo as well. I dunno why people have such a hate on for someone that wants one of the "popular" brands, other than jealousy. I mean there popular for a reason. But as soon as you mention buying a "Harley" you get labeled as a wannabe or poser.

Razzing your buddy is one thing but wow some people really go overboard.

Well, if it's a barhopper, I guess it won't matter that it rattles your fillings out while sitting at lights. :p I would stay away from buying through the states, as you get nailed bringing it in to Canada, and any warranty issue will be a PITA to deal with.

I'm not much of a cruiser bike fan myself, but I was originally looking at a HD V-Rod, but I'm so happy I didn't go with one. If you want a bike that has a wow factor and people talk about, take a look at Triumph (the oldest manufacturer still making bikes). I ended up going with one of those, and you get so many people wanting to talk about your bike with you. Triumph has some nice cruisers, with lots of power and a lot of accessories to add on, if shiny chrome is what you are looking for. Just suggesting you don't get stuck on HD because of the image/name, and take a look at other bikes. Take them for a test ride and see what you like best. I for one couldn't stand all the rattling that goes on while riding a Harley, maybe a girl on the back would like all the vibration though. If after riding a few bikes, you still think that HD is the best bike, then get one, they are good looking bikes.

I have a vrod vrscr, perhaps not considered a Harley by most. imported from north Carolina 5 years ago, saved a min. of 5k, even after paying 750 to ship to border. Import was seamless other than being held at border while they verified purchase price. Paid GST, did RIV and inspection, done... another plus, current resale on my bike is about a 1k hit after 4 years. no brainer to go state side and buy again. fawk warranty.

Lol..yes the school yard kids like to tease others originality or preferences. My list of toys ranges from an XP, M1100T, polaris rzr, john deer and a suzuki intruder which I just sold so that I could buy a new road king classic. At least with the harley it will hold it's value.

I for one and am not at all jealous about your want to buy a Harley, I'm just saying, don't buy a Harley for the sake of the brand, when there are some REALLY great bikes out there made by some really great companies. Ride them and find out for yourself. Though I guess if you just want a Harley, then get one, if you don't ride another bike, you won't know if there is something else out there that you could've liked better.

There you go! I haven't heard of anyone importing a HD before, but other toys and brands. They saved some money, but ended up having it being a giant PITA when there was a recall and had to take it back to the US dealer to get the work done. Just figured it would be the same with Harley.

I just imported 2 Harleys from Texas, one of them New. I've been told by Calgary Harley I have full warranty as long as my first service was completed by the dealer (same thing as Canadian bikes). The only snag I hit with my bikes was waiting a full month for the title of the new bike to be issued by the state of Texas as I couldn't cross the border until that happened.

I am giving up on the wave. Sometimes I will wave back but it seems like when I wave first I never get it back. Stupid wave.

I would wave back to you Keith even though you aren’t riding a Harley.

I pretty much wave to anyone on a cruiser type bike. I find most crotch rocket guys leave me hanging so I quit waving to them.

I figure I saved close to $5k on both bikes overall. I could have done it cheaper if I had more time. I could have saved by trucking them to Great Falls and clearing them through customs myself but I paid extra to have them delivered to my door.

I don't think very many people buy simply for the sake of the brand, although no other brand has the following that Harley does. I got back into biking a few years ago after many years away from it and Harley was the easy choice for a number of reasons.
1)Resale. They hold their value better than any other brand.
2)Support. There are dealers everywhere. On a long trip, far from home, they go out of their way to get you going again.
3)OEM and aftermarket choices. No other brand offers the choices to get a bike to "fit". It's not even close. Bars, seats, controls, wind protection. Infinite choices.
4)The "family". If you are into that (I'm not) there is a function somewhere every week of the season. A handful of bikes, a few hundred, or tens of thousands. You pick.

I have taken ribbing from both of my wife's brothers whenever we go riding. One rides a Triumph, the other a BMW. We all know the advantages and limitations of each others machines and have swapped often. I'm buying a new Ultra next year and after all the bashing now they are fighting to see who gets my used Road King. I think I'll let it go to the guy with the most unique apology.

Oh, the wave thing. If someone waves I always wave back. If they don't, I won't. We're both SOL in that case. I don't judge someone's character based on a "wave".

I'm proud to own a Harley and have no problem wearing my Harley T-Shirt.
I'm also proud to ride my Yamaha.
There is nothing wrong with brand loyalty an having pride in one or a number of brands.
Really - does it matter what your riding - or does it matter "That You Ride".

Top Secret.
if theres one thing we learned in this thread its that cruisers are lame and everyone should have a sportbike that goes 300KM/H on one wheel.

then you dont have to worry about what you look like, who you wave to, or what music you have playing!!

Just need to figure out the "white oakleys" of the motorcycle world while riding that bike on one wheel at 300kmh. Riding home today some dip**** comes up behind me at high speed. Rides beside me for a minute them takes off again and acts like I am going to race him on the highway

That represents the odd Rider. Most riders of any brand or style of bike is a respectful and courteous rider. . Unfortunately "All" bikers, sledders, quadders etc get grouped as azzhats when a joking humors comment, like this, is posted.
Not meant as an attack or insult, just the way it's taken.
