Took it for a rip down on my lake. Power was some what better. I'll have to try some clicker adj. only 100km/hr top speed low end was ok for snap.I think I'am just expecting too much from this 583.

in those years, the 583 was an overachiever. there wasn't a stock 600 class sled that could touch it power wise, not even the polaris 650 RXL triple, or the Freddie Kruger Cat 700 twin. you should be able to hit almost 100 mph on hardpack depending on gearing. I had a '96 583, it would do a lot better than 100km/hr box stock. check to see if 'doo still offers the "intake tune up kit", short carb boots, and 501 rotary valve. they work very well with the gutted airbox mod.

if you can, remove your primary and check for wear, as well as your secondary. check the teflon buttons on the secondary, as well as the outside of the helix for belt dust caked on. those years of secondaries were famous for getting tight from dust and crap preventing it from operating properly. some of them you would have to hammer apart...watch out for the helix blasting upward if it is stuck when you remove the snap ring and start pounding.....:d

Out on the lake again fresh snow played with my clickers was at#3 went to #2 full out 7300rpm 91km/hr. Went to #4 full out 7900rpm102km/hr, try #5 full out 8200rpm but only 97km/hr. low end tourq much better for hole shot.
2ndary got cleaned out end last year. I'll try to track down some of the other ideas.

Air box all gutted. I grabed some of that silk prefilter cloth from speacialty sleds. Took out all air restricting foam and replaced it. What a difference in air flow. I had to jet up 2 sizes.
