I won't take anything to G.P. for repairs anymore. I'd think that if you could get yourself up and running, and provide high quality work, at a fair price, along with a friendly atmosphere around your shop. You could find alot of customers looking you up.:twocents:

I would support someone who could get me some good service. I don't know if it's just me but I seem to get pissed off every where I go in G.P.

You would have at least two clients from Peace River making the trip to your shop... no drive is too far for good service these days.

Count me in.

For my experiance in operating a shop like you are proposing, I have the following advise:

  • Service, Service, Service. Customers will pay more for parts and a higher labour rate if the are being served as they expect.
  • Stay independent. Do not become an OEM dealer unless the oppertunity cannot be turned down. Beware, aftermarket suppliers want you to have an OEM number before they will open an account for you, but there are work arounds (think credit cards and cheaper US prices and better delivery time) You'll be able to take in all models without bias, real or otherwise. Some customer believe OEM dealers have the best trained mechanics, others know a good mechanic can work on them all.
  • Mechanics and parts changers are not the same and your customers will know the differance, even if you don't.
  • Work with OEM dealers if your independent. They need you as much as you need them. You need technical info while they need you to take care of the customer they can't.
  • Some customers you don't need. Other customers you cannot afford to loose.
  • Toys are not repaired or modded on your credit.
You can PM me. I know the success and failures of such a business.

Im glad it's not just me having service woes,a few years ago there was a great ski-doo dealership im Wetaskiwin, the guy who owned it,was fair and gave a rats ass about his customers, since he sold it,it's a bigger fancier dealership that has clueless overpriced parts and service.

I would have to say in my opinion that having fair prices is the biggest thing to me....i understand that you need to make a living, but outrageous prices are a huge turn off, by keeping prices low, you will gain back the money you lose by lowering the prices by having more and more customers...my 2 cents.

you should start a shop man. none of the shops are really changing and it'd be a pretty sweet add-on to grande prairie!
