In need of some winter tires for a 2013 F350 Dually. Should one go with a dedicated winter tire or a snow rated winter? I drive particularly all highway and will be making trips to the mountains. I would like to have the tires studded Kal Tire will stud the Nokians but the Fountain Tire I phoned wouldn't stud their tires the Duratracs and the Goodyear Ultra Grip Ice. I live in the rural AB and also deal with deep snow before roads are cleared.

Happy with my duratracs, those nokians look like they would be great on ice but maybe not so in deep snow. Another thing to consider is are you planning on swapping them out in the summer? If not, I would imagine you would burn the nokians off in no time.

I just ordered the Nokian lt2 hakka's 10 ply tire, they come studded.....not a ton of studs but should still be a decent tire for winter

Nokian Haka 5 on mine. They rock on ice, and are pretty good in air dam deep snow. I've had mine for three winters, and still have tons of tread on them. I swap them out come snow melt and put them on just before snow hits. I would buy another set in a heartbeat.

I just installed the Hakka's too. I was very impressed with some I ran a few years ago (non studded, previous tread design though).

IMO the only time the Duratrac will out perform these is breaking trail in heavy snow. On icy roads you need lots of siping and edges. There is no perfect tire.

Yes I would be swapping them if I decided to go full on winter tire.

I have duratracs on my 2500HD and I am not too happy with them on ice.. They are great on snow but not a whole lot of traction on ice.

I love the look of the tire and how they grip on snow but they do get really loud when they get worn. A couple of the other 2500's at my work were using Nokians and they really liked them but they do not last as long as the duratracs. (50-60km vs 70-80km, depending on use obviously)

I was told that the factory studded Nokians were sold out but the none studded Hakaas were available and they would stud them. The size I was looking for was 245/75/17, I'm considering phoning another store to verify this. Would prefer factory installed studs.

Unfortunately Kal Tire is the one and only source for Nokians. No competition. I wonder if one store can tell what another has on the rack? The factory studs are different than any shop installed stud I've ever seen. Not that I know which is better.

Yeah bought mine at KT - 245/70/17's on steel rims were 1800 installed, tax in. Factory studded.

Put duratracs on my new f250 3 weeks ago and I am very impressed! I live in southern AB and I also looked at the hakka's but with all our warm chinooks and plus 15 days in the winter my feelings were a true winter tires on a heavy diesel will wear fast! They wear fast enough on our mini van. With our recent storms and crazy icy roads this was the first time I did not have to slip it into 4x4 as usually back tires spin these duratracs gripped very very well. I have also used them hunting last week and was climbing some steep snowy coulees and again they impressed me. Happy with my choice! I think they will work better in the deep snow when pulling into staging areas as well. good luck with your decision.

I can't comment on the Nokian, but being a pure winter tire, and if studded would be a great performer in cold/icy winter conditions no doubt. Not sure if tire life is a big concern as I think they would wear out quite quick compared to the Duratracs. That being said, I am on my 4th set of Duratracs, have been very impressed with the overall performance and durability of the tire. I am running with 2 sets, kept the ones I was looking to replace for strictlty summer use (don't really put too many miles on in the summer) and a new set couple winters ago, fully studded, and I couldn't be happier. These are great in snow, and the studs make a big difference on icy conditions. I think I will have a great "winter" tire for quite a few years, they still look 90% new.. also driving on unplowed roads in central AB after snowstorms here as well, never had an issue.. 325/65 18"running on an 05 F-250, with a sled deck, feels grippy to me when loaded up!..

When I asked for a quote for my F350, the haaks are only made in a 270/65/R18, Stock tires on mine are 270/70/R18, So i didnt want a smaller tire. I went with the Toyo WLT1s, awesome tire! OK Tire on Whyte is where i got them

Just installed my Duratrac on my 2013 3500 GMC dually and love them!!!Live up north and do alot of driving into BC , highway and logging roads, cant wait to really test them out since I only came from the tire shop to home. Time will tell but right now i m VERY happy with the choice

I'm happy with the performance of my Duritracs but am finding that I need to rotate them a little more frequently than 12k. They are fairly noisy too which doean't bug me much since I was warned about that before I bought them.
