goodbye to heavy truck manual transmissions

With todays autos, not sure why you would go back to a manual. We had a few hardcore manual, "tough" truckers (they were white guys if that helps) swore they would never drive an auto. I got tired of warranty claims on clutches and driveshafts, so for the next 13 trucks I leased, I went all auto and forced them to use them. I then gave them the option when the lease was up to choose either manual or auto and guess what, zero takers on the manual.

“As of January 1st 2025, we are limited to 10% of our order board to be Manual Transmissions. This is a challenge because some of our Product Offerings do not have the recommended Automated replacement available (T800WH/W900/C500)”

This is concerning to me..

I for one have driven a auto and was not a fan, we pull only suber b grain trailers and the abiltity to select your gear and control the power/traction is king. Autos skip gears and then lugg way down mb the new ones are better but i wouldnt want it either way

Once a person drives a Allison auto it's hard going back too stick...

I came from the day of 2 on the floor,,, what an advancement when the 8 speed showed up,,, 10's and 13's was a dream come true...

The Fuller18's was like heaven !!!

The 5 speed auto with lock-up 6th was ok,,, the 7 speed auto's with the 2 stage rock's,,, for heavy duty theres nothing like adding a 2 speed box in the middle...

Same 7/ w 2-stage and a 4 speed auxiliary move things along pretty fast...

Anyway's,,, the savings on fuel might be ( minimal ) at best...

90 or a permitted 140 ish ton ++ load will burn fuel ...

1 Liter per k packing heavy...

Auto's have there place,,, b-trains packing fuel benifit with a slacker engine program when the fuel gets sloshing around on the rolly hills and ( whoop Tee doooo'zzz .)

Dam tranny doesn't know what gear too be in flying down the back mountain roads if fluid is sloshing...

And for slowing the battle ship down,,, the good old tourqe converter and oil pressure band lock up,,, the engines go into a retard mode...

Pretty easy too lock up the back wheels on ice and wet roads...

Todays auto's are so nice too drive...

I have driven both on road and off road for the on road the auto is awesome but for off road i would take a manual any day

I agree, this really doesn't make any sense. Manual transmissions are more efficient at moving power from the engine to the driveshaft. Way less moving components, and no clutch packs, pumps, or torque converters with friction or slippage that cause parasitic losses in the transmission.

So the 10% is only left for log trucks?
There's no way you could survive coming down some of the hills in BC with an auto.

My friend is a truck driver, and has a few trucks. He said the autos aren't the best in the mud, manuals work better there.
