Thanks for the fast reply and the info. It's very much appreicated. If you are going to be up for a couple days you could ride both the north and south areas. Stage at eagle river staging area for the north and grout creek staging area for the south. I would not be crossing the Athabasca river yet. They have been grooming, south was done for sure, not sure on north but I would be surprised if it hasn't been completed yet. Will let you know tomorrow. Each area has very nice log cabins with fire pits, great for families. Go to the whitecourt trailblazers website for downloadable maps to your smart phone. Can also print from there as well I believe. I do not believe any of the hotels have locked compounds for sleds, but I wouldn't let that stop you from staying in any of the major hotels. Holiday inn, western budget, and lake view seem to be popular ones.
Good advice and thank you. Always take it to the mountains with me but never think about it most of the time when trail ridin with the family. Gonna start now.Make sure you have a saw of some sort. There are a lot of smaller birch that have doubled over with all the snow and are in the way of the groomer. Way easier to stop the sled, hop off and cut a two inch tree than to stop the groomer, climb out, cut the tree and climb back in. Unfortunately they don't make the cabs and windscreens of the snow cats to take down trees.
Awesome pic. Are the creeks and lakes safe enough that grooming has begun? Gonna head that way with the family over the holidays. Where would u recommend for a guy to take a 10yr old for a good ride. He is on a F5 with a 136 2" track and he has been ridin his own sled since he was 4 so he can ride better than ur average 10 yr old. Where would a guy stay for the weekend that his stuff would be relatively safe? Sleds will be in an enclosed 22 ft trailer.
Most all of the south trails are groomed except Summit trail is only about 1/2 done. Awesome snow out there today!
