Anyone know the plus and minus of a 2005 duramax, 3/4 ton S/B crew cab? 194,000kms. What is it worth? Full load leather...etc etc

I know the 2006 is suposed to be the best duramax out there "LBZ" so I've been told. But the LLY I'm not sure of!

From what I understand they have a little less HP than the 2006 and newer and also have a 1 less forward gear than the 2006's but as far as mileage from what I hear the are one of the best.

Like all the earlier 6.6l td.... They have injector issues.... I think they are warrantied to 250k?? We've done a few of these in the last month. Dealership wanted $9800 from the guy and we were a little over $5000 to do all 8 injectors....

The later LLY's are pretty much the same as the LBZ. internally and programming wise. They do only have 5 speeds instead of the 6 the LBZ does.

Are you looking specifically for a crewcab? My dad has a VERY clean 04 ex. cab SB with 92xxx kms, never been modified. Spray in box liner, Truxedo cover, 16K Reese 5th hitch and more.

Are those a updated injector, or the same injector? Was it a 05? I know the 01-04 were trouble some. The 05 and up I thought were easier to change, "injector not under the covers" but I could be wroung.

why is it 10 grand to change the injectors. is it just the fact that they are expensive for the parts or is it a really labour intensive job

I thought the 05's and up were easier to change, not under the covers. the truck I really want is a 06 3500crew cab long box with a deck so we can still pull the sled trailer. I have not reserched this too much but I think with a longer hitch a guy should be all right with a V-nose and 2 sleds on the deck. Any one done this?

I've got an 05 crew cab 2500 HD with 85K on it and the only problem i have had is an injector lead failed on cylinder one and when that happens the whole bank cuts out. Had to be towed to shop and only took an hour to fix. Just finished putting a set of air bags on it to stop the bounce when pulling my holiday trailer. I wouldn't hesitate buying another one. And yes the injectors on the 05's are not under the rocker cover.

I could be wrong but I was led to believe

The LLY does not have injector issues. They are not warrantied to 250k.
They are warrantied for 3 years and or 150k.

The common problem on them is the 2 and 7 injector harness.

Check out Diesel Place.com for more info.

You can eliminate many injector issues by using clean fuel, use a pre OEM fuel filter as well, and diesel conditioner.

And I love my o5 lly

Cheers

your partialy wrong there is a special policy but only if it is because of high fuel return rates and the harnesses are what i usually see it's a split bank sys it will drop 2 cyls on each bank and yes the best thing you can do it add a pre-filter

the LLY has injector issues i'm a gm dealer and have seen the lly's that have come back with injector issues my 05 went through 2 sets within 350,000 km's! They also have had issues with the head gaskets sometimes. the lly is different from the lbz and the lbz is different from lmm due to the injector size and pulse width. the lly is a great engine no queestions asked but you may wanna get ready for injectors on that truck if they havent gone already. mine went 125,000 km's and then again at just over 300,000. the lbz is a strong motor forsure by far one of the best but there is a reason why more people pull parts off the 01-04 LB7 motor just saying it is a little hidden gem that tons of people overlook but most egr delete pieces i.e.- the exhaust manifolds,up pipes, and down pipes are a lot of times a slightly modified lb7 part.

I have a 05 LLY

1. Injector harness rub on alternator - easy fix look to see if any wires are damaged, repair and then cover the area where it goes over the alternator with hose or something of that nature.
2. Injector harness #2 and #7 harness was too short from factory putting strain on these plugs. eventually causing them to lose contact with actual injector easy fix, take a pic and remove the harness clip at the injector and bend the inner tab (female end) so that the clip gains more contact with the injector. or by the lenthened injector harness from gm.
( You will know you have this go wrong because the truck will sound like a 4BT cummins ) dont as me how i know :)

3.Head gaskets - pour the power to the lly and these will be a weak point, although some have had issues stock. arp studs and new gaskets will hold. 2005 seen a updated gasket
4.Overheating - some people have issues with them over heating pulling a big fifth wheel, some fix it with LBZ rad, intake + pieces.
5. transfer case pump rub - google it - easy fix.

6. FPRV - put the power to it you will pop this, install a shim kit to solve this. VERY EASY

**if your smart about your fuel filter changing regularly you SHOULD not have any injector issues you can also add an additonal filter with lift pump aka airdog, fass etc**
a simple test with a buddy with EFI live or some other tuner that measures injector balance rates will quickly tell you if there are issues. i believe -4 mm3 to +4mm3 some say +6 as well.. is within spec at idle in drive.

not all LLY's will have these issues this is just a compiled version.

Check DIESELPLACE.com for a very indepth look into all you need to know about duramaxes

No matter which one you get, make sure that you are using the tow-haul mode when you are towing, I didn't on my second one, don't really know why not, but I fried the baby Allison in it and the reconditioned replacement was $5200.00 installed.
