been out with some stock xms that went with the 174 and they work very well with so its time....had bought the track a few months back and received 174 rails from iceage last month, went with 11 inch billet wheels, went with toms titanium skid since there is another sled that works very well with the same skid:beer:

sounds like good idea (174x3) , do you think a stock 800r with 7 tooth drivers could turn that track well enough ? im thinking more track will get me farther than more power. any thoughts ?

I put on a 174x3 on a stock 2010 800r and it climbed a lot better than when it was a 163x2.5. I had 160/350 primary spring and DJ QR-11 secondary but had to go from 441 ramps to 417.

Been running the 3x174 for two years and a 2.5 x 174 before that.
I think the 2.5 is the best all around and you will only need the 3 inch for very few rides.
3 inch is great when waste deep.
You will notice the length in handling.
Track speed will drop a little but your GPS speed will pick up a lot .
Sled will stay a lot flatter on the snow when climbing.

I just put a 174 3", Tim's rear skid with ice age rails, and a c3 synchro drive on my 880 but haven't got out of the field yet.

as for gearing I went to some different gears on the synchro, I was breaking to many belts and felt that the top 24th gear was part of the problem, so now am at 27top 67bottom for more belt contack... it also has allowed me to back my belt tensioner almost back to the starting point, as it was almost at the finished travel point with the smaller gears.... new ratio of 2.48 I hope works out

Fred you have the extended case with 8 tooth avids also if i remember correct. When i had the 2.5 with 8's i was at 2.52 ratio and worked very well. With the 7's i have geared up some.
Must be tight on the bottom of case with the 67 tooth.

so far two rides on the bigger gears and all is well so far, with the smaller gears I would of jumped the top sprocket by now and every ride after it would get worse, sure can tell that the sled likes to push forward with the 174 and takes a bit more strength, but ya there is a difference over the 163....

It must be the extended case that are causing the belt problems due to the longer belt. Can't see why as mine was one of the first prototype and hasn't given me any trouble.
Not extended case though. Weird!!
I broke two chains with the 174 before the belt and since nothing. And yes the chains had had been broke in and tightened correctly.:d

Ya I think the major issue is the angle that the tensioner is on due to it being near maxed out with the longer case and belt. If only gates made a belt that was a 1" shorter for it I think that would solve some of the problems I'm having.

well out three more days with the gates belt and larger top pulley and no issues, starting to now feel the top 27 pulley was the solution over the smaller 24.... and it also allows the belt tensioner to have much less bend on the belt...

should also mention that at 7600 feet I marked the primary and did a hard climb, at the top I looked at the primary and it pulled approx. 1.5 inches down from the top of the shives, so its close but maybe a 26 top would get it to the magical one inch under the top:beer:

Thanks for the info. I called c3 and they want to take a look at my sled to see if they can find another issue that may be causing me to be loosing belts! I think regardless I'm going to be doing a gear change like your self! What belt are you running also is it the gates poly chain 8mgt 1120 36? I'm seeing if there are other options for belt brands.

I have both belts, using the gates on the turbo sled and the other on the ? ON THE 880... also wanted to mention how much easier it is to hold down the skis with the 174, even with a much softer skid, it still is better than the 163 and a much stiffer setting

well used the gates belt on the turbo etec this weekend with the bigger 27/67 gearing, everything looked good after day one, belt seamed a bit on the loser side but thought it was fine, took a look at it tonight and found a issue... looks like a loose belt will rub on the back side and where down at the bottom of the chaincase... you can see how far the chaincase coves over on the belt, the rest is fine, was schocked how much the belt streched after a hard day one

I have the 174x3" with a C3 Synchrodrive with 2.52 gearing Avid extended chaincase. Somehow spun the top gear on the jackshaft a couple weeks back on Boulder not sure how going to talk to Pete and Al next week when we head back for another ride, left my sled at the Sled Shed was getting an intake put on anyways. But other than that no problems with breaking belts at all. This is my first problem with the belt drive (3 years have had it). My tensioner is not maxed out. I am maybe an 1" or 1.5" from the top. My belt isnt super tight but enough its not slipping.

For the guy wondering about turning these tracks with a stock motor. I wouldnt recommend it, with the 860 I wish I could turn it faster. Got Al to do some clutching work too see if that helps. The 174 makes up for power but would like to spin that track a bit faster. The track is a beast goes and climbs everywhere but its heavy and big and a stock motor wont turn it efficently enough I would think.
