Usually go to blue river... Group said going to montana... Think cooke city?

Anywho, probably cheaper hotel, fuel, and bar food? Friend of mine lives in the hat (actually across the street from trax to treads house) says skiing in the states everything's cheaper compared to b.c.

Also what should i do for elevation? Only been up to 6000 ft and that first day sucks. Where we are riding Its 10,000 ft. Should i run for the next two weeks with a gas mask on lol. What you guys do to prepare?

Drink lots of water before going. It helps counter act the effects of elevation.

Chances are good I should be working!

I highly recommend Cooke, heading there Thursday for the annual guys trip (5yrs running) and meeting up with real good friends from Montana and Idaho. This weeks forecast has a bunch of fresh snow, can't wait. Town is about 7600ft. Most of the riding is 8500-9500. The surrounding peaks are 10000ft but you won't be riding that high.

Personally I don't do anything to prepare. Just make sure you have fluids with you. It's really no different than riding Silent Pass near Golden. Back there I have seen almost 9000ft. I usually drop one or two Advil in the morning when I get up. But that's more for the old bones, I'm sure it helps the head as we'll.

As far as the sled, I have a 2010 Summit (PTek), only change to it is up 1-2 spots on the quick clickers depending on snow conditions.

When my wife and I climbed Kilimanjaro we had a prescription for Diamox, might be something to check into.

We were down in cooke a couple of weeks ago. Snow was awesome, it snowed the whole time we were there. It was hard to stop to take pictures or stop for food or drinks the riding was so good. We had stayed at a bed and breakfast so had a good breakfast little bit of food in the muff pot and a good supper. If you're into drinking hard liquor in your hotel or cabin I recommend getting it before hand as all they have in Cooke is Mickey's for off sale.
As far as elevation you definitely get gassed quicker but like others have said drink lots of water, eat high energy foods.
Another thing I would do differently next time is instead of riding in from the east, I would drive around and in through the park so you can have truck and trailer right in town. The Chief Joseph pass is quite the deal when towing.

We are heading down to Whitefish area next weekend for backcountry technical clinic. Can't see that the elevation will be much higher than Fernie. My acreage near Okotoks is at about 3600' and the place in BC (near Fernie) is about 1000' lower (2460'). I think the highest I have ridden around Fernie is about 7500'. Should be a great weekend if the weather/snow cooperates and we learn something….

Don't get all hung up on the elevation. After a day you're used to it. On an 800 Polaris, run 60g weights and you'll be fine. I've been riding Montana, Wyoming and Idaho for years now and I've steered clear of BC for a number of reasons. The riding is every bit as good if you hit the weather.

In billings right now enroute to cooke until sat. Let you know how snow is

If you can provide an update after your first or second day of riding that would be apprciated. There supposed to get a bunch of snow Wed-Fri.

That would be nice. I'm heading somewhere that direction on Thursday. Going wherever is going to have the best snow. As far as that goes, looking at Snotels and based on 2 days of riding there a month ago, Seeley Lake is pretty tough to beat. They keep getting dumped on with every system that goes through.

Its coming, weather network has a storm warning for the area 10"-18" in the mountains. I think you may struggle with visibility tomorrow! ;)

Fuel, food and lodging is all cheaper, even with the exchange. Not to mention it's also closer for me.
So far still working oyt alright. Diesel is averaging around 3.80 a gallon. Gas is around 3.25.

big snow hopefully coming tomorrow. We could climb anything we want here right now....like late spring conditions.
