Just be on time ready to work and pay attention.

On another note... young workers are 5x more likely to be hurt on the job so know your rights, trust your instincs and ask questions.

Heres a couple of links for you to check out.... work hard but always remember no job is worth your life.....

Never sit idle, if you have nothing to do clean tools, sweep floors etc. Stay active and learn as much as you can, avoid picking up the attitude of the guys who have there for a long time as you won't have the work experience or have paid your "dues" that the other guys have yet. Above all stay safe, every worker in Canada has the right to refuse work if you haven't been trained in a task or you are unsure of your safety when performing the task. Be very carefull around chemicals, dust and vapours that are everywhere in a bodyshop. Things happen fast so stay on your toes, and keep in mind the rewards of having a job while you work..... Girls and toys.

Why would anyone take their rooster to a drilling rig????

Seriously? This from the old guy with the reading glasses?? I'm pretty sure you know what I am talking about, and it doesn't have a beak. I'm starting to think you were dropped as a baby... :d

Don't go in thinking your "owed" something, or that you "deserve" the big bucks right away. Too many people now a days don't understand hard work and working your way up.

Simple fact you came on here to ask and are excited about the job says a lot about your character already.

Pay attention to the parts of the job you like most and ask for direction in those areas. You will be more satisfied and enjoy the work. Stay away from negative people with bad attitudes. Since your new they will try to suck you in to their negative ways.

Lots of good advice here. You are obviously on the right track with your good attitude and I wish you well.

Hahahahahaha eewwwe...

Always be willing to help and learn.. If you feel something is not safe or out of your abilities it's ok to say no to the job or ask for help....

Goodluck!

c'mon guys lets get to the real ways to get ahead.......kiss a$$ right off the bat.....find out what the boss likes in his coffee and remember it, will win you big points if you pick him up a coffee here and there......talk him up to him when ever the opportunity presents itself......

but in seriousness, if you cant find something to do, sweep, tidy up, organize things, be interested in the company, always be willing to go the extra mile, stay late, come in early....help with things that aren't your job, learn as many different tasks as you can, versatility is job security. and in the longer end of things, be loyal, even if someone else will offer more $, seniority and loyalty show a persons character and in the long run will end up getting you further a head.......JMO

thanks for the advice. theres only four people working there and the owner is laying off another student working there because he has to constantly be baby sat. wont have to worry about picking up bad attitudes from senior workers because its only been open for about a month. just hope the insurance company will cover me.

Allways ask questions, like what does this do? How do you fix this?In the first little while the broom will be your best friend (Body shops get dirty fast)You will be doing all the grunt work ,,pulling off truck boxes, cleaning ,,sanding new panels taking stuff apart..mechanics don't really like there tools all over the place if you use something PUT IT BACK,There is $15,000 plus in my tool box and i know everyone starts somewhere and we like to get people into the trade ,but there is usually only one of everything....Anyway keep busy and don't be afraid to ask questions,,,.good luck

had my first day of work today and it went great. worked for 3 1/2 hours and it went by too fast! my duties were pretty simple, just getting used to the place and learning where everything is. he had me vacuming cars, unwraping parts, cuting up boxes, emptying trash, putting away tools and getting a truck ready for a client. pretty fun day. i made a good impression. when i was waiting for my next orders i was sweeping. and i cleaned up all the tools when he had to take a call after we were done putting some pannels on.:d
