So far from what I've heard, I'm against....we as consummers should be given a choice, if the seeds are genetically altered we should be made aware of it on the foods they wind up in.

Not sure your thoughts on David Suzuki, he does get ratical, but he is one smart cookie...

Watch the video ......

definitely NO regardless what Suzuki says. The very least the people need to have a choice so have products labeled.

Um,, Wheat ext that kills bugs if they eat it; must be good for humans...

But no thanks,,my general rule of thumb is if people werent eating it 1000 years ago
you probably shouldnt be eating it now.

Maybe so, but Monsanto is a corporate people killer with a track record of horrifying complacency when it comes to human health and safety. If food is our medicine, Monsanto and GMO are the disease...
Not disagreeing with you Mamma. Just don't like Suzuki and everything he stands for. They need to vote in a new spokesman for the green cause.

Yup... Suzuki tends to be a wing nut. In this case he's right, but most people won't even watch him because his extremism on environmentalism have shot his credibility. Even I didn't watch his video on GMO, but I have done enough research elsewhere to know a scary thing when I see it.

Sometimes GMOs help people. Golden Rice is rice that has been fortified with beta-carotene (aka vit A) That’s because the absence of beta-carotene in a diet can cause blindness – a serious problem in countries where rice is the staple crop. More than blindness, the beta-carotene in Golden Rice can help prevent against disease susceptibility, infant diarrhea and premature death in small children.

We can grow more food using less land. With the world’s population swiftly surpassing 7 billion people, we simply have to come up with ways to grow more food on less land.

GMOs may soon reduce or eliminate the need for insecticides. We already have GM plants that can withstand insects, weeds and diseases on their own, without needing to be sprayed with insecticides or chemicals. reducing chemical load and residuals in the food we eat and the land it's sprayed on.

We haven’t seen anything negative happen to people so far. GMOs have been used in foods for over 20 years now, and in that time we’ve seen few, if any, negative reactions in humans. Genetic modification of crops, like any other new technology, should be viewed in the light of what has gone before. Man has been manipulating the genetics of crops for around 10,000 years. Wheat, the world's major crop, is a hybrid of different species.

i think a lot of people mistake gmo vs organic.

While I agree with Catalac I disagree.

GMO: we ARE using more round up than ever before, increasing amount of super weeds and the increase of round up ready crops.

GMO insect resistant: BT CORN, the european corn bore for which the BT corn was developed has developed resistance to the gene and producers are now having to spray insecticides on fields planted with this technology

GMO increased yields: Hyola 401 canola. in MB that variety which is not a GMO was the last time we had over 54 bushels of canola per acre. The increase yields are partly from the breeding but the producers and the new seeding methods, etc have contributed as much or more than the GMO breeding

We will not see the effects for a number of years, it wont be us but our grandchildren will be the ones to display any human side effects. Not 20 years but 13 years of GMO Seed production.

There is scientist who are speaking up, DR DON HUBER , goggle and watch and learn. The plants are reacting to the gene inserted and are using the micro nutrients from the soil in different ways. Also the plants are showing root problems due to the excessive use of Round Up.

All I can say is that there is LOTS yet to learn about this and it would be great if there was some independent studies and longer studies done on these crops, 90 days does not tell anything.

If one wants to feed the world, there are other ways to do it than GMO, the amount of wheat and other seeds wasted in the world would feed the hungry.

My Biggest issue with GMO is the fact that the US/Canadian governments have ALLOWED Monsanto to monopolize this and we are ALL going to pay for this one company to have this much power

Ever notice that kids are allergic to everything now? Here is a good video on GMO's. It's long but informative.

I KNOW IM GONNA GET FLAMMED FOR THIS.... but

he usually is right... look what he said 20 years ago about fish farms... wish i listened to him then... im not tree hugger... but whether we like it or not he's usually correct... he loves the outdoors and his biggest worry is saving wilderness for his grand kids... not a bad thing? Now keep in mind I only listen to what he has to say when it's something im interested in like fishing... im not a huge believer in climate change... i know he is but you can't say he's not a smart man... GMO foods... there is a reason why Europe as a whole has regulated away with them... if they are allowed in foods all the packaging must be labeled... on an interesting note... i couldn't find it but there is a very interesting article writen called, "the prostitution of academia" by David Suzuki... great read and i believe it to be true... we all need jobs and sometime we don't like people cause they critize what we do or how it affects the environment but 100 years from now... our Grand kids will know one thing... he was right and we were wrong... somewhere there has to be balance... of all the greenies out there he stands for balance more then most... i don't always like what he says but i value it as good science. Sorry had to defend the guy!

The only flaming will be from him in a chartered jet flying off to his next speaking engagement telling us the dangers of carbon fuels like the stuff in his jet.
