Gmc or ford new trucks

I am looking for a new truck. I drove a new GMC 1500 4wd with a 5.3l SLE with a good load. I have not driven the same with the 6.2l. I did look at the Ford F-150 with a 5.4l but didn't drive until Saturday morning. All the same price. Any body have ideas to share. I don't want a Dodge or Toyota.:d:beer::beer:

I have owned 2 new Fords in the last 7 years and also talked to a few guys that have recently purchased 2007 or newer and the similar theme is that it takes awhile for the 5.4 L to break in . The power and fuel consumption is crappie for 20000 Km and then power and fuel usage improves. The transmission in mine tended to over shift ( shift too soon and in some cases shift too late ) in the early going. I think it was to do with the "learning mode" for the transmission. Either I got use to it or it learned my foot shifting style. The motor likes to spin the power is @ 2100 RPM s and beyond. It scared me to spin it at 3500 to 4000 + RPM for a long time ( several minutes ) but I did it for years of driving while towing and the motor didn't blow up or start to burn oil.

i was a chevy man to the bone, bled bowties. but wife conned me into buying a 09 f150. best unit i ever owned. great power and fuel mileage. and rear seat space huge only one i seen bigger is the mega cab. needed big space for 2 preteens. only issues i have with it is the traction control bs, but thats on all new units, and it only has the 5.5 ft box. but overall unit kicks azz. hauls waaay more than the chev 1/2 ton. actuall hauls very close to the 3/4 tonz rated amount. rides like a car rated to haul 4000 gvw on the rear axle 3700 on the front and tow 11500. very nice unit. i didnt go to the chevy because of cab space, lower power, towing capacity, and the wifes final decision. go with the ford imo.

I went to Ford today and he has the best price 41000 cash. GM has the same cost but no side step or box side covers. Ford has them in the cost. The Ford has 18in tires nicer looking body nice interior. I worry the 5.4l has the power I need to pull my holiday trailer 6000lbs dry in B.C.

I own a 09 f-150 and love it I put a deck on it and haul 2 quads and pull a 26 foot holliday trailor with no probblems

I think you can pull your trailer . It is how you define "Pull" . In your neck of the woods there is the Peace River valley and Pine River Valley hills to pull. Diesel truck can pull those hill with 6000 - 9000 lbs as 120 + Km /hr. With your truck if you are ok at pulling at 90 Km /hr @ 3500 + RPM. You are going to need 3.73 gears in the diff. I know some manufacturers have 4:10 in half tons but I am not sure about Ford. If you have 3:55 - you won't pull much. The 5.4L likes to spin - I think peak HP is 4200 RPM and peak Torque is 3800 RPM. The motor can handle the high RPM if you are ok with letting it go there. It took me a couple years to accept the high RPM towing style. My old truck had a 351 W and it lugged it out when towing 5.4L won't lug - the trany will shift to get it spinning and there may be a bit of lag that you don't experience with diesels or V10 power. You just have to anticipate the hill earlier . Also the tow/haul mode does work great as well as long as you remember to use it. It is great for going down hill and engine braking. The new 5.4L engine should have about 1000 Km before you start to tow heavy loads with it ( as recommended by my dealer ) . Just my 2 cents worth- good luck.

the 5.4 will have lots of power for ya. moved the mother in law from nelson to edmonton. pulled a 4 place enclosed trailer. weighed in at yak was 7890 on the trailer and 7400 on the truck, both axles combined. 120 all the way and no shortages of power. averaged. 13mpg in bc with that load.

Drive an 09 F-150 with 6.5' box - 4 doors - the back seat area is huge - this is the best ford I have had - previous were 1997 F150, 2003 F150 - this 09 is by far the best - get the sony option for the stereo.

I bought an 07 F350 last November. So far I'm happy. My other one is a 2000 F250 that's tough as nails (It's looking for a new home)

I looked for a long time, read everything I could find and drove many of each of the big 3.

There is good and bad to all of them. It depends on what you need/want from your truck and what you can live with. Here's the info I found during my search (all 1ton, 4wd, crew cab, regular box)

Based on the numbers above, the 6.0 can't compete with the duramax/allison combination for torque/HP, but I can sure put more stuff in my truck:rolleyes: And I liked the interior of the Ford better

Probably be a year or two...

... til you figure out that you really should've went with a 3/4 ton or even a 1 ton. Been there - done that.

Approximate payload capacities are 3,000 lb (1,400 kg) for the F-250 Super Duty, 4,000 lb (1,800 kg) for the F-350 Super Duty with Single Rear Wheels (SRW), and 5,800 lb (2,600 kg) for the F-350 Super Duty with Dual Rear Wheels (DRW). By direct comparison to the F-250 SD the Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD/GMC Sierra 2500HD is rated at 2,600 lb (1,200 kg) max and the Dodge Ram 2500 Heavy Duty is rated at only 2,100 lb (950 kg) max payload capacity.

Approximate towing capacity for the F-350 Super Duty is 19,200 lb (8,700 kg) max. By direct comparison Dodge Ram 3500 Heavy Duty is rated at 16,400 lb (7,400 kg) max and Chevrolet Silverado/GMC Sierra 3500HD is at 16,500 lb (7,500 kg) max.

HMMM. ford has twice the max payload and 2700lb greater towing capacity than GMC/Chevy or Dodge for similar year/body/drive line.

There will always be the Ford vs. GM vs Dodge arguement, but at the end of the day, a real truck is what you need it to do and what you want out of it. Do you want a truck you can brag about HP, or do you want a truck that can haul your toys legally?

Fords drive like a box... but they are the best "work" truck, but they handle so bad compared to the others...:canadaflag::flagca:

Im actually getting rid of my 2004 F350 Crew for a f150 platinum. Figured I dont need to be the first up the hill anymore and the 2004 diesel is a piece of chit, BUT, pulls like crazy! if it can only stay together. Wife drives the truck the most. Dealer told me not to change the rear end lower as it greatly affects the mileage, I pull my 27 foot trailer 8-12 days of the year so I agreed with him, hope that wasn't a mistake.
