Maxwell and tuker, I would agree with you if the sled still had stock 10 tooth drivers, even 9 tooth I would run lower gearing, but with 8 tooth you are reducing the final drive almost %20 from stock already.

Heck I think a 20/51 on the XP's is an awesome combo. I am all for lowering the gearing.

With Rowdy's '04 rev she went from 10 tooth to 8 tooth drivers. The circumferance of the 8t's is almost %20 less than the 10's.

Would she not want to make up for the loss?

Basically this is what I posted on her Summer work post...and hey I don't mind being corrected as I don't mind learning....

Prior to doing any track and driver changes her sled was (and still is) geared 19/45 with the 10 tooths. Idealy a 19/47 is what I would run and is what I did run in my '04. Many others also run it.

Looking at the gearing ratio and speed calculations for that and now with 8 tooth drivers we can compare the results.. Yes I know top speed isn't the result we are looking for but using the top speed as an indication to what gear ratio to run with the 8 tooth drivers will help. Remember the 8t's will give almost a %20 reduction.

current 19/45(2.36 ratio) with stock 10 tooth (25.20 circumference) gives about an 82 mph top speed.

19/47(2.47) with 10t is about 79mph (which is good)

19/45 with 8t(20.16 cir) dropped to about 66mph.

To get back to the 79 mph range I would go to a 23/45 and a 74 link chain.

23/45 with 8t's is 79.8 mph, back in the (19/47 with 10t's) range of top speed.

I'd even run a 22 to get it down to a 77-75mph range.

See Rowdy It does pay to ask lots of question ,because I forgot to mention we had 2,86 drivers 9 tooth BIG diffrents ,But still a fan of the bigger bottom gear.:beer:

Maxwell- I take it from your post it was meant to be condescending. I am not trying to say that a mathmatical calculation should replace real world experience or testing but as a base line there atleast in theory be a place to start. Not everyone has real world, first hand experience in everything and looks at ways at supporting the knowledge they have.

Sure what works on paper isn't going to be perfect but the differences in the two suggestions are quite large.

If someone is making a suggestion I would think they can atleast explain why they did.

To me what I see in my head doesn't explain why Rowdy should gear even lower after going to 8 tooth drivers.

Rowdy- I guess you should listen to Maxwell as no sled he has run would turn gearing as I suggested.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

I was being serious. In thoery you are correct. And who knows if she trys it those baselines may prove to work favorably. I just reccomended my setup that I had with a 151 rev and 7 tooth drivers. What an awesome combo it was. But I'm sure between your buddies and snow and mud you can try 23,21,20 combos all in the same day for free. Remember gearing is a direct result of clutching aswell. My combo was setup for me but its still a good place to start.

Good jebus...if I had known going from 10 tooth to 8 tooth drivers was gonna be such a pain I wouldn't have done it. :(

Well I'm going to order the 22 tooth sprocket when I do my parts order beginning of July (why not it's only $40). Try that beginning of the season, if it doesn't do anything try the 19-47, if that doesn't work go from there.

Anyone have any 21 or 20 sprockets out there they want to get rid of or sell?!

Heya Dan!
Unfortuantely I can't make it this weekend as I am hosting a house party. My sled is also in pieces to get the work done on it for the summer! Sorry to disappoint, but I will be up and running for next season and rearing to go! Get me jumping and dropping some of the big stuff! :) Cheers and have a great weekend, can't wait to hear all about it!
