That's Really Low for 8 tooth Extroverts. I think that was the gearing they had with 10 tooth drivers on the 151" track machines in 04

No wonder they didnt work well. Thats what I run with 8 tooth 3.0 pitch drivers with a 156x16x2.5 and an 1160.

Here is a link to Joeys gearing calculator.

Gearing Calculator

Not that your looking for the final answer given in MPH but it kinda gives a person some idea what a couple changes can/should do.

What's got you thinking gearing come mid-June.... The current gearing didn't really seem to be holding you back last time we were at Revy?.

I didn't have my new drivers and track on when I was in Revy with you guys. I'm thinking about it now because of my last ride where I lost a ton of RPM's.

I was thinking going 23-45 for gearing with a 74 link chain. What do you guys think about that?

Because its just to tall for your combination. To much stress on the drivetrain. Will cause hot burnt belts, low trackspeed and poor throtttle response and fading rpms. You can only run gearing like that on a high hp sled. Basically the ultimate gear ratio is where you can hold peak rpms under all loads, and have the bottom end pull required to get you out of trouble. 23 45 isn't that combination. By all means give it a try but we are giving you this advice based on our testing. Usually stock sleds won't spin taller gearing than factory settings. My 200hp rev wouldn't even spin that combo

Thanks maxwell! The last thing I want to do is change something and cause more issues. So your advice would be to go to 19-47? I'm going to get a new chain too just cause. :)

Thanks Maxwell couldn't have said it better. We ran 19-47 with 9 tooth in my wifes 05 800 151 2.25 ,so 19-45 with 8's is very close I alway run the biggest gear I can on the bottom. So if it was me I would go 20-47 .

I took off the stock drivers because they were pooched. Had no idea changing to the 8 tooth extro would be such a change.

Maxwell and tuker, I would agree with you if the sled still had stock 10 tooth drivers, even 9 tooth I would run lower gearing, but with 8 tooth you are reducing the final drive almost %20 from stock already.

Heck I think a 20/51 on the XP's is an awesome combo. I am all for lowering the gearing.

With Rowdy's '04 rev she went from 10 tooth to 8 tooth drivers. The circumferance of the 8t's is almost %20 less than the 10's.

Would she not want to make up for the loss?

Basically this is what I posted on her Summer work post...and hey I don't mind being corrected as I don't mind learning....

Prior to doing any track and driver changes her sled was (and still is) geared 19/45 with the 10 tooths. Idealy a 19/47 is what I would run and is what I did run in my '04. Many others also run it.

Looking at the gearing ratio and speed calculations for that and now with 8 tooth drivers we can compare the results.. Yes I know top speed isn't the result we are looking for but using the top speed as an indication to what gear ratio to run with the 8 tooth drivers will help. Remember the 8t's will give almost a %20 reduction.

current 19/45(2.36 ratio) with stock 10 tooth (25.20 circumference) gives about an 82 mph top speed.

19/47(2.47) with 10t is about 79mph (which is good)

19/45 with 8t(20.16 cir) dropped to about 66mph.

To get back to the 79 mph range I would go to a 23/45 and a 74 link chain.

23/45 with 8t's is 79.8 mph, back in the (19/47 with 10t's) range of top speed.

I'd even run a 22 to get it down to a 77-75mph range.
