latest post over there shows a few chain cases apart and the resulting wear.
Those pictures look like what happens when you don't tension the chain. Have seen that before.latest post over there shows a few chain cases apart and the resulting wear.
yeah but the guy replied that they’re all pretty meticulous regarding their sleds and he mentioned they ran them at the proper tension. looks like to me anyway, that this is an issue.
i split my chain case because I managed to drop the spacer behind the top gear when installing a clutch kit. the oil after one ride (85% break in left) was black due to very fine, suspended black particles. I thought that was unusual but this was before anyone was talking about chain case issues so I didn’t look closer. now I think it was the black paint from inside the case being rubbed off.
anyway, I’ll be splitting the case again this weekend and will take a closer look.
I have one but haven’t seen it in years but that’s a good idea.Got a dial indicator? Throw one on the bottom gear and rotate the track

update on the chain case—I installed the TKI kit and hyvo stuff which is a very easy install and takes about 10 minutes after the case is split. turns out I did have wear in the chain case just to the left of the tensioner shoe which is the same as I’ve seen in pics of other sleds. it’s a very small spot but I’m still at 70% break in left at least and can’t help but think that it was only going to get worse. i’ve also kept the chain properly tensioned the whole time. so switching to the hyvo stuff is prolly unnecessary but assuming the TKI kit does what it supposed to, then that’s definitely something to consider. at a minimum split the case, remove the sprockets and take a look
you can make it a lot shorter, but it might not fit around the gear and sproket.last time i saw a chain that long it was on an old 1970's versatile swather.
That extra length is worth a couple pounds of weight LOLlast time i saw a chain that long it was on an old 1970's versatile swather.
so the fiche is showing that hyvo sprockets/chain are supposed to be in there. if that's correct and it definitely makes sense, will doo issue a recall and replace the silent chains? will be very interesting to see how all this plays out and what they do with the '24 sleds. there's gotta be a reason for the barrage of chain adjustment videos and "keep your chain properly adjusted" announcements as opposed to previous years. could be doo couldn't or just didn't put in the proper parts and to mitigate problems, they're emphasizing keeping the chain tight and hoping for the best. but that doesn't take into account the wobbly coupler.Well something is going on though. Ski Doo parts finder shows for the 21 tooth sprocket for the 850 turbo R 165 to be #504154188. Mine has part #504153910 in it which is the part # shown in parts finder for the NA 850 165.
If that is an issue I don't know, but no denying there is different parts in them.
Didn't pull cover and look at chain or bottom gear as I haven't had to adjust chain any more than on other sleds I have had. That said, I am pretty easy on a sled.
Brp just hopin the chains/gears make it past the 2 year warrenty. Funny how when there may be a issue a buncha ambassadors start putting up vids sayin how important proper tension is im betting that a slighty loose chain is making the wobble much worse then boom. Chain to tight is also not good and the chain on the vid looks pretty tight. Kinda like the 17 belt issues when brpso the fiche is showing that hyvo sprockets/chain are supposed to be in there. if that's correct and it definitely makes sense, will doo issue a recall and replace the silent chains? will be very interesting to see how all this plays out and what they do with the '24 sleds. there's gotta be a reason for the barrage of chain adjustment videos and "keep your chain properly adjusted" announcements as opposed to previous years. could be doo couldn't or just didn't put in the proper parts and to mitigate problems, they're emphasizing keeping the chain tight and hoping for the best. but that doesn't take into account the wobbly coupler.
just looked at the parts diagram from the place i order from and those part numbers have now been updated to hyvo.
You mean those long chains that drove the wheels. Broke plenty of them. Was always a test of patience trying to join the ends of those friggin things, Lollast time i saw a chain that long it was on an old 1970's versatile swather.
And if you broke one you were spinning doughnuts asap lolYou mean those long chains that drove the wheels. Broke plenty of them. Was always a test of patience trying to join the ends of those friggin things, Lol
Happened to me on a case 8820 with 25 foot header on the highway when i was like 15 luckily it happened just past were there were sloughs on both sides of the road what a rideAnd if you broke one you were spinning doughnuts asap lol
definately take the 9RFood for thought
I’f BRP said you can have hyvo, but you’ll get your sled when everyone gets their 9R (March) Or….you can turn your adjustment screw 3 times and get your sled in November. What do you pick?
