Fuel Prices Around Edmonton

I have a dodge CDT so I buy diesel. It bugs me that I have been paying more than GAS, I thought it was supposed to be cheeper. Pump prices lately have been about 0.97/l for diesel. Than a month ago I found diesel at the flying J's (ie. SHELL) in nisku for 0.65/l, it went up two weeks ago to 0.75/l put I'm still not complaining. I'm still saving about $25 a tank. I wonder who else knows about this, and I wonder, other than Flying J's, where else can you buy less expensive diesel on the the south side?

What are other people paying for fuel and where are they getting it?

There is nobody that I have found that can compete with Flying J I go to the on the Yellohead whenever in the area, Superstore is a nice surprise. Have a Hughes close by but only buy enough to get somewhere else.....they could win a prize for consistantly having the highest prices in town 99.9 today:rant:

I too get frustrated over the Diesel pricing. I know increases happened in the spring due to the "new" fuel to meet the emisson laws but this YoYo effect is frustrating. I too fill up at Flying J in Sherwood Park whenever I'm in the area. They seem to have the best price around.

The Flying J is the only way to go. About 20 cents a litre cheaper.

I'm still thinking of the secondary fuel tank. Would be nice to have another 60 or 80 gallons on board. I could drive for a week then without a fill up.

The pump at the Nisku flying J was running about 1 minute per litre today. :eek: Took the guy in front of me 18 minutes to get 20 litres. I was on MT so I had to get 10 litres, I pulled the nozzel out of the tank, my pi** stream is bigger than that trickle :mad:, it took about 1 second per penny to fill, think about that. They are going to close it and re-built it like a proper flying J so they don't want to do any maintenence. In the mean time we will loose our 0.75 fuel here in the south till it's re-built, and I dont' have time to fill up there when it's that slow.

I checked out the commercial account at the UFA today. $0.88/l, not as good but better than 0.97/l. I was really hoping someone would know of another way to buy less expensive fuel. What about fuel cards, anyone getting good discounts on those? Maybe we should all start a fuel bying consortium. My dad said you get some pretty good discounts around 100,000 litres per year at petro can card lock (he used to drive a heavy truck).

Same, I fuel my truck at Flying J, I live close so it works for me. I didn't know there was one in Nisku. Once in a while I end up getting a little fuel somewhere else just to get me back to the J. I will end up at a Husky so I get AMA points or Hughes where I can get the corporate discount..

HEY SUMMIT2003, WHAT KIND OF TRUCK DO YOU DRIVE:confused: . IF YOU DRIVE A FORD SUPERDUTY PSTD, THERE IS A TRICK CALLED "HARPOONING" THE FUEL TANK:rolleyes: . WILL GET YOU AT LEAST ANOTHER 20 LITRE CAPACITY ON YOUR FILL-UPS, WHICH WOULD EQUATE TO ANOTHER 100 - 110KMS/TANK IN DISTANCE RANGE. LET ME KNOW, AND I'LL REVEAL THE BIG SECRET.

I Don't Think Chevs Can Be Done, Because They Have A Different Venting System And The Vents Already :( Seem Very Close To The Top Of The Tank, Unlike The Fords.

There is a trick I have heard with tapping into some vent on top of the thank. There is an air pocket for expansion when used with gas, if you tap into it (some call it a vent mod) one can get another few gallons into it. It involves dropping the tank and quite a few hours work. I haven't been to excited about it (not bored enough yet I guess). I guess it's a similar thing with fords?

yup, the filler tube and vent tubes usually protude into the fuel tank about 4 inches or more, so the trick for a diesel fuel tank is to cut off about 3 to 3.5" of this protruding neck. this would allow for several more gallons, and in the case of my shortbox crewcab '04 power stroke turbo diesel f350 4x4 an extra 20 litres fuel. the tank is rated at 109litres, and the most i ever squeezed into it was 100litres. after "harpooning" the fuel tank, I just squeezed in 130 litres instantly, without trying to trickle the last gallon or so in. 20 litres would equal around 100 kms or better. quite an improvement in range, if you ask me.:D
