Insurance will pay for recovery of said units....

the problem with these 2 is that the insurance company's are dragging their heels and with one of them on a lake it has to happen before it warms to much and sinks to the bottom. we have pulled them out before we were given permission or authorized to do so and gotten into deep s--- for it so now we are trying to do by the numbers. the one on the lake, may not wait to long.

Couldn't you possibly just move the sled off the lake for the time being?? This kind of thing is far too common.

I find all kinds of abandoned sleds on the Mountains around Revy.

and yet another reason membership dues and trail fee's have to increase, there is no way a Not for Profit CLUB can afford to be choppering other peoples units out of the back country.

If I were the cops a quick check with hotels in McBride to run owners name and see if they were checked in the weeks before reporting stolen as well as checking credit card for fuel purchases like Hinton might be all it takes. For that mach of the sled to be stripped and to be left where it was sure seems to be orchestrated. Just my $.02 worth.

Not a chance the police would spend that much effort on a sled theft. When our garage was broken into and a bunch of stuff stolen...I asked the cop why they weren't dusting for prints...he laughed and said here is your report for insurance purposes...bye, bye.

When you say insurance as stated here they have to pay for recovery. Do not release it without getting payed , do a detailed invoice and hold it till they send some one to get it. Tow company should call and have a cheque before you let it go and don't forget about storage fees. Insurance may tell you different but they are responsible and will try to f- k you around.

Insurance companies are often judged by the skill of the employee representing them so do not let one who is thick or irritable guide your judgement of all. Yes the recovery cost, whatever they might be (provided always they are reasonable) is part of a theft claim. I wonder if one could justify the cost of a helicopter for a piece of equipment that could be towed out.

A towing company is probably the best route to getting a recovery fee so I would contact one who deals with the RCMP and explain the situation. They can either send out their appropriately equipped people to tow the unit back to a recovery area where they can load it up and bring it to their impound lot. As a business, they can charge the appropriate storage fee and recoup the costs from the insurer. They are also familiar with the auction process so can send unclaimed vehicles to auction where we can all bid for parts if we want....

I would tow any sled off a lake in spring myself just because to not do so is irresponsible IMO. Also gives our sports a bad name as not giving a shoot about the environment which we do (from a practical point of view of course). Good for you Whitecourt Rider!

See comment below. Really not much of the sled that is missing. I wouldn't jump too a big conclusion that automatically it was "insurance fraud", although can't ever rule it out. Truck and trailer stolen while on a sled trip - Happens all the time in Revy. Let's say this guy was in Valemont and riding, sled gets stolen and they run it to Mcbride to hide it. They wreck it or stash it and someone else comes along and peels the parts off. Lots of very "opportunistic" folks in the backcountry.

I believe it was on the lake at 303836.58 m E, 5927207.97 m N. We were down in there last week as well, didn't see the sled but a couple other guys were asking if we did. You would have a hard time pulling it out on a long line, it would be tight around a couple of trees but early on a cold morning on hero snow you could probably do it easier with a tracked quad and a short tie. Not like you gotta worry about scratching the paint.....

I had my Motion X on my phone turned on and marked the Lake. I named it Crater Lake on my phone.... Anyways i went and looked if it gives coordinates and it does... It says Lat 53 degree's 27' 25'' N, Lon 119 degree 57' 09'' W

Hope this helps if someone is going to get it. If anyone wants to talk about where it is or how we got there inbox me and i have no issues explaining.

I think if someone took a set of ski's and a crazy carpet it would be a few hours and it would be out. I don't get much time to ride so i tried to look the other way and post it so if someone was looking for there sled they could put there mind to ease.

after you explained how to get to it we know what lake you were on. tough pull out of there for sure at this time of the year and a big thanks for pulling it off the lake.
