Glad to see Arff's post, and land mass of that photo is "about" 60kms x 60kms. Whole crap is that a large burn. Not good at all. 84.000 hectors ish give or take what is standing in the odd areas according to news media report...

Thanks everyone for keeping us all up to-date.

I'm betting he wished he had that back now. We'll see how generous young Mr. Santa Claus is!
Don't bet the farm on it .... He has no use for Alberta oil , let alone Fort Mac .
There were no votes for him up there .....
We will soon see how " the young guy" does ....
leonardo has his ear a lot more than than Fort Mac victims !

just heard on the radio over 11 million bucks donated already thru Red Cross. That is awesome! Feds will be matching it. Love to hear when adversity hits neighbours/countrymen step up to the plate to help.
The 11 mil donated doesn't all go to McMurray. The Red Cross redistributes to other disasters as need be. So the same will apply to the 11 mil from the feds.
Still can't understand how the feds can spend 1.2bil on refugees and only match 11mil for our own Canadian people?
The feds can arrange planes for refugees but the Oilsands companies are evacuating the people with their own planes, charters at their cost and the generosity of West jet.

Yeah I agree. The feds are only matching what the public contributes? Kinda ridiculous they expect us to pay for half of this. Get ready for another insurance rate hike!

I'm no fan of either government, and this is quite the intense subject, but do you think you are jumping to some serious conclusions thinking either government is only giving 11 million dollars?
Really?

The Feds announced it dollar for dollar and the provincial announced a 2 dollar cap. Read the news no jumping to any conclusions, educate yourself before you make a statement.

Bet a bottle on it? That the federal government will only provide 11 million dollars in aid?

Not at all saying you are wrong about today's news, just thinking that's all it is, today's news.

Not going to get in a piss in match over it.
It's what they announced and that's all anyone can take it for as facts.
In the end when it's all said and done no doubt it'll be more but as of now it's the only commitment the Govt has made period.

You're right, those dummies take their time to get anything done, short of giving themselves raises

Actually while I wouldn't say RCMP will be doing anything like that I would be worried about looting if I had a home there. Hopefully there will be law enforcement and military to prevent it as they kill the fire.

Honestly I have not seen anyone but RCMP and Fire Trucks.

It's a dark black smoke filled City on fire.

The CN shack along the tracks by Allen creek.
I'm a equipment operator at the airport at CNRL horizon. Last three days have been bonkers sending people out. Yesterday alone was over 30 aircraft. Almost 4000 people sent out. Continue today as well. Stayed past my shift to help get people out.
Flew out this morning and will be heading Back to provide relief for crews tonight or tomorrow.
We ran out of jet fuel and our tanker was stuck in grassland. RCMP gave police escort for it and got it to us. Big thanks to them.
I never seen so many people work like a team and use every resource to help get evacs out.
Not one person complained. Even in + 33 heat on buses and a overpacked airport. The passengers were still thanking us. Cats dogs birds snakes lizards everything went on them planes.

Tuff sending out fellow coworkers and guys form site that live in the Mac with nothing but a suitcase for a family of four. Made me want to cry.

Big thanks to Canadian north. First air. North cariboo. Enerjet. Flair and westjet. Be lots of people up there still without them stepping up to send in aircraft.

In less then 24 hours, the local radio station(s) and Saskatchewan have raised over $650,000 to help Fort Mac, and the government is going to match it.

over shot it a bit, turned out to be $641,000

take a read. People from Saskatchewan are a lot like people from Alberta, just east instead of west.
