So we're accepting help from the mexicans, and from the south africans..... Why did we not accept help from russia and their offer of the big water bombers????
I'm not sure what big water bombers they offered but if they scoop then they are extremely limited in which lakes they can use as well as too large a drop means ground crews must be moved out so it is a huge interruption. The large planes also can't target as effectively and usually drop less water per dollar than the smaller more efficient planes. These are all reasons why the Martin Mars is no longer used, new tech is more efficient.

Plus do you really want a bunch of Russians that probably don't speak english flying around in that commotion? It could also be a cold shoulder to Putin in response to his quest to take over resource exploration in the far north.

Today was our last day assisting with the fires.

Re entry starts tomorrow for the public.

Hopefully everything we did the last few weeks assisted the citizens of Fort Mac and area.

It is difficult to explain how it has effected myself and others.

Please keep positive thoughts for everyone effected by this fire.

It will effect people for years.

Thanks.

Well you have heard so many times already but you guys have done a great job helping others. The work and hours and time away from home is greatly appreciated by many. Hopefully people will heal in time and without too much grief. I can't imagine doing it nor do I want to.

We are up there testing for wood Buffalo and some of the stores, and infrastructure. We're doing air quality and swabbing surfaces including wall cavities and attics and sending these in for testing looking for certain particulate. We have requests from most of the insurance companies to complete the same tests on many residences throughout the city. I'm sure this data will be available to the insurers. All I know Is our job is just starting up there with over 2000 new jobs this week, this will excel to I'm sure beyond 5000 by the end of June.

Just for other information, Insurers buy re-insurance on there policy's. The larger the company the bigger hit they will take on themselves. For example intact is a large company they will have like a 100 million dollar deductible, and someone like peace hills which is small will have a 30 million dollar deductible. They will all show a loss this year on there books from this I'm sure.
The other issue that not many have discussed is when these older houses burn to the ground what's left is toxins, one of these that is in found in houses older than 86 is Asbestos. This is not just in sheet Lino and vct tiles but is found in drywall joint compound, ceiling texture, shingles, and many other building materials. When the house burns to the ground asbestos is in the char that is left behind. This does not burn. Now several of these properties are contaminated, we are testing the debris. They are spraying a foam in all those neighbourhoods to encapsulate this to make it relatively safe for people enter. Other hazardous chemicals are airborn as well, arsenic for one.

I was talking to the guy today and they are spraying a type of cement. Covering the burnt down houses.
We worked in waterways area today.

Yes I was told some areas have a lot of toxin's in the air and also covering the homes.

I would say all the emergency responded have been breathing this in for a while.

We got issued masks for particulates but can't wear 24/7

Great job Ray and a great deal of gratitude going your way and your colleagues way. This will be in and out of the news for years to come and probably the "news story for 2016" as the incredible scope of devastation is unheard of in Canada. Thanks once again...............you are a trooper!

Be careful .... Look at the 911 health issues .
Those poor people , this may be one of the most under rated disasters in Canada ( in terms of $$$)in a long while ....
I am dumbfounded at the lack of response by our federal government !

One has to wonder if these people are going to get a "fair deal".....
at the same time pose the question , if this had happened to 80000 + in Quebec, would the situation be handled differently?

are you sure that isnt just american beer relabeled?

A Canadian brewery is providing relief to Fort McMurray evacuees by giving them the chance to crack open a cold one — of water, that is.
Labatt Breweries announced Wednesday that it will be donating over 200,000 cans of emergency drinking water for firefighters and victims of the northern Alberta blaze.
The company is immediately donating 69,000 cans, with over 131,000 ready to go out later this week if necessary.
"At our Edmonton brewery and across the country, the people of Labatt are alarmed and deeply concerned by the devastation of the wildfire that has overtaken Fort McMurray. Our priority is to shift into high gear with our Disaster Relief Program and do everything we can to help," said Labatt's vice president of corporate and legal affairs Charlie Angelakos in a release.

I came back on shift last tues and I'm pleased to see that the smoke has cleared and the city buzzing with people again. Crews working hard trying to restore the properties with cleaning crews and crews restoring the fire breaks.

A huge shout out to the first responders and the clean up crews.
