Ford 6.2L

Anyone driven one? Own one? My dad is buying a new truck and that's the one he wants just want to get some info on it first. His truck he has now has been GARBAGE. Which is a 2006 FX4 with a 5.4L

I thought you could only get the 6.2 in a raptor?

My dad had a 2004 4.6L f-150 that went 300,000km and only went through an alternator at 120,000km and now drives a 2007 Toyota tundra which has been a total lemon like your dads. Its cost him $14,000 ( yes thousdand) in repairs in 2 years so far. One bill was for an air pump for emissions which came to $4500.

I guess there are always lemons that come out of a factory.

I have had my F-250 with the 6.2 for a year now and no issues. I have 35" toyo mud terrain on aftermarket rims, dual exhaust and thats it so far. I'm getting 15L/100 if i drive it nice meaning 110 or less. Pulled a four place enclosed to the hills five times last winter and averaged 25L/100, which is not too bad but definately not a diesel. My 2011 duramax gets 15.5L/100 pulling. I have some pics of it in the show your rig.

put it this way, if he's buying used most fords that are "good" ones are not for sale but if he's hooked on a ford (dont be so brand loyal it just costs you money in the end, they are all good just buy something that fits your budget and is easy on the wallet) anyways lol if he wants a ford i would get a 7.3L or a 6.7L or a late 6.0L 6.4L were garbage IMO, or be smart and get a Cummins :)

Have not seen it or rode in it but a buddy just had his 1/2 t EB company truck replaced with a 3/4 t 6.2L and it is in the shop (under 3000kms) because it is running like AZZ and no power. He messaged me yesterday afternoon to tell me his 2011 Ford is broken already, he is a die hard FORD guy....LOL Just from what he said, it's got lots of power empty, but loves fuel (mind you it is practically brand new) and is gutless when a trailer is hooked on....IDK these are his first impressions. He has an 03 Ford F150 5.4L and is looking to replace it, said he was seriously considering a Dodge 3/4 t Hemi after the last 2 Ford company trucks he has had left him on the side of the road. LOL

I have one with 17k on it in a 3/4 ton. Has good power empty, have only pulled a trailer weighing about 7000 lbs, pulled it no problem. They are definitely fuel thirsty, but what big gas motor isn't? I had one problem, power steering hose blew, replaced on warranty. No other problems since then. It will take some time to see how they really are. I usually drive about 120, and the computer (if it's accurate) shows about 16 liters/100 km, but remember that's an average of city and highway driving. I'm happy with it so far, but we'll see how it is in the long run. If pulling a trailer lots, I'd have bought a diesel, but for pulling once in awhile, I went with gas to save on up front cost and maintenance costs.

I drove one in the ford shootout a 1/2 ton lariat.It is a rocket ship!In the 1/8 mile nothing was even close.Not the hemi nor the chevy.They both actually got beat by the new ecoboost v6.Long term can't help you but it sure was fun to drive lol

I have a 2011 F250 crew with the 6.2L and i like it alot compared to my 08 f150
Gets 14-15mpg on the highway driving normally (with deck and toolbox 1000lbs)
At work it gets about 11mpg and that is the same in town.
has 32000kms on it. With my f150 best i got was 14mpg on the highway and 8 in town.

All in all im happy with the truck. :p

He HATES diesels. We have a 2004 F350 with the 6L in it that has been a money pit. Expensive to fix, maintain, and buy he always says.

Thanks. Someone who actually has one. Fuel mileage isn't a huge dealer his business pays for fuel so he doesn't mind the MPG for power. He drives way to fast as in 130-140.

that 3.5L is inviting but he's scared of something so new and different.

The 6.2L has been a good motor, we have lots come through our shop from the the mines and lease company's and we have only seen one engine related issue since they came out (bad rocker arm easy fix). I think If I was to buy new truck it would be a 6.2L. If he is looking at the f150 the 5.0L seems to be holding up really well to, lots of power and really I still believe there's no replacement for displacement. The 3.5 has just hasn't proven itself yet I would like to drive one with a load on, and not just the unloaded ones i get at work.

What where the other 9500 worth of repairs?

2 radiators, starter, alternator, power steering pump, 3 batteries, crank sensor, 2 radios, and blower fan for heater. We won't buy another import just because the price for those parts were stupid, and you can only buy parts from toyota. You cant even buy wiper blades from anywhere but there and I think he said they're $70!

We know theres always a lemon from anything you buy ( we know we got that ONE), but when you have to buy expensive import parts it's no fun. He's going back to a domestic truck next month.

My wife drives a Toyota....buy wiper blades from NAPA all the time...WTF? By the way, for a half ton....you won't find a more reliable truck. Maybe you did get a lemon but I think those are far less common in the Japanese vehicles.

I don't think it's a maybe. It is a lemon. We looked for wiperblades and couldn't find any but now we know.

I posted on another thread, I have the EcoBoost, I was pesimistic at first, but after our holidays ( trailer and loaded up truck, scaled weight of over 14,000 lbs.) I'm a believer. Loaded in heavy traffic 11 mpg through the Crowsnest, coming home without a trailer just under 8,000 lbs. 18 mpg ( again in heavy traffic) Loaded with the trailer I could pull out in the passing lanes on the hills and be doing 120-130 km/h with out floorboarding it. I have a buddy that has a Raptor with the 6.2, He says it goes like a raped ape, but she's a pig on gas. The only thing I don't like about the EcoBoost is that it sounds like a V6...doesn't matter what you do, it will always sound like a V6 :) :beer:
