Hello Everyone!

I have always wanted to quad on a mountain. Apparently, Folding mountain, which is just south west of Hinton-and not inside the Park, is able to be quaded to the summit. I have spent 2*2 day tips trying to find my way up there, and just can't seem to find the right trail.
I have been staging south of Hinton, just off of Hwy 40, in some sort of gravel pit/lease road.

Would anyone have GPS tracks, or be able to provide a couple of pointers in the right direction in order to get me up there?

If I can be more clear on where I am trying to go, please let me know!

I have scoured the Internet, and have only found 3 references to this trail:
http://tinyurl.com/lpv2hbh - A hiker who hiked from the Yellowhead Hwy to the summit and then over the top. His pictures show a quad trail heading up to the summit from the back side.
Stress Relief Ride Pics - General Can-Am ATV - can-am ATV Forums - can-amtalk.com -This guy has actually been there. I am attempting to contact him directly. No luck as of yet.

- Found this 3 years ago. This was the first time I had heard that you could get up there, and my whole reason for this post- Post #5

If anyone has any information, it would be very greatly appreciated!

I have the AB/BC Backroad GPS Maps V 2 micro card, and this trail is on it. and it should also be in their Maping Books, less expensive.
If you are going up there because the poster said that you are on the top of the world, well at 1981 m is quite a bit short of the Canoe Mt in Valemount, BC at 2640m ride to the top.

Bruce.

Hi, yes i know that ride very well, been going up there for years.mostly only the locals know it and it's not traveled that much. It's pretty steep n definately not a family or green rider ride once u start climbing.

This is right at the very peak...went up there couple years ago on a solo trip, just to add to the challenge took my Chinese sxs... N walked 17km to the staging area on the way out do to a break down. First time it left me stranded n ended up being something sime i could have fixed... Lol oh well.
Anyway, that post from atv Canada was probably the one we did years ago but we never went to Folding... We did a big loop n it was one hell of a ride. Raging river/creek crossings mud etc... Good times.

Few ways to get in there. U can leave from Terraces saw mill ( right across the road that goes to the sand dunes)

just don't park at the tipi's... N have respect n drive by all the tipi's slowly. Old indian grounds n they hang out there n have pow wows n stuff... Lol

so ya u just drive to the end of the road pretty much past tipi's. It's 9.5km's then u hang a left about 3/4 of a mile before the old lease/well site.

Follow along that trail.it's a bit rocky at beginning.
then follow it till u hit a y. Stay left n just follow that main trail. U'll go through some creeks n mud. Old cut blocks then u hit the really muddy section. If this section had bridges that trail would get used more. Takes a little bit t get through the mud. Then u will hit the main cutline going up to folding.

you will hang a right n you have a steep ass hill t climb... Then there is a shelf n u will see a log bench i made in 2005. Good spot t have a break. Then u continue up n two more steeper climbs the u r near the top. The original trail goes left n around then through trees but years ago someone cut a trail that is only wide enough for quads. Sxs's will have a hard time on that trail. Then u r at the top if u survived the climbs. Lol

there used to be signs up there saying it was a FLUZ zone but they r gone now. Not sure if quaders took em down or srd?? But no where can i find online u r not aloud t ride there.

And ut's bull**** anyway because that whole mountain has exploration trails all over it from our mine n it will b mined one day so i say ignore signs if u see n ride.

Other way to get up there is from bembo's post camp or Ski Doo Valley. But to hard to explain.

This is from Bembo's Post Camp. We took a couple detours looking for an old trail over but couldn't find it. But u can see the main trail we took to get of to Folding.

the second pic shows the lease site at the end of the road coming from Terraces Saw Mill ( old saw mill area from years ago)
where the tipis are...
you would turn left before the lease road. You'll see the well beaten path.

hope this helps.

Actually i just looked again n those would be hard to follow. If u give me your email i believe i can send u the track then u can just zoom in on google earth n it's really easy to see.

we were on sleds this winter and did some exploring around rather than just head straight for the trails we know.

So much riding around here... Half the trails r gettingbgrown in from not enough traffic lol

The pic was from a buddy of mine n he was at cougar rock along hwy 16. The highest prak u see is Folding mountain. It is an incredible view from up there. I've been to alot of peaks but i'd have to say that view there is the nicest i've ever seen... There's so much variety in that view... Mountains, dunes, 4 or 5 lakes, the foot hills the town of Hinton, the coal valley mine over an hr away, the old Gregg river mine site etc etc... Pretty cool...

I went up there last fall but it was on dirtbike no quads up the way we went. Then going down we went down the north face from close to the peak longest scariest down hill ive ever done. But an awesome ride up there anyway.

as for Hinton Area there aren't a ton of "Peaks".
folding is one of them, the rest are just littalally all around Hinton. Baziliobs of trails here. So nany that some trails are not even used n grown in.

If u like getting up into the peaks, Cadomin has a few. red cap mountain is just below the top of the mountain n has an unbelievable view,Harris mountain u ride to the very peak n overclooks the mine. Million dollar view, the back side of the red cap overvin the Mckenzie Valley u ride the ridge awesome views. Baldy mountain i think it is in Nordegg is a cool ride way the hell up near god lol.
Hinton has alot of technical cool riding. 100 mph sxs guys should stay in the desert. Lol

Went sledding up there this year n after we came back down we took the old winter road over to Bembos post camp / Mystery Lake Area. Holy **** that trail needs work towards the end lol. But it was cool to see that quads were using it. Needs more people to ride it with sxs's that aren't afraid to get out the chainsaw n trim willows.

Reviving a old thread I've been told there is some single track dirt bike trails up on Folding Mountain. Does anybody know if this is true?

Reviving again. Also hoping to get up there on a dirtbike. I’ve flown over the trail from the peak until it drops into the trees but I couldn’t tell how treacherous it might be.
