I thought I would be in the market for a new sled for this year. Then we got very little slow and some things changed job wise for me so I held off. I was going to rent s 2012 Polaris PRO RMK 800 when I finally go riding in February but now it looks like we are changing destinations and the current place has no place to rent one. I am coming off an 04 rev 800. I liked the sled, I rented an XP last year and I liked it too. It wasn't an E Tec and it was last year though. When I compared the XP to the REV I kind of prefered the REV more except for the handlebars and running boards. I really didn't like the space for my knees that much on the XP. The plastic is straight up I assume due to the clutch location on the XP and I didn't like it. Not a huge deal though I am sure I would get used to it. I have been a doo rider since 04 and never really had any plans to change that but there has been some good things said about the PRO and I wanted to give it a try.

When it comes down to some key things
Track - I don't care much about it so no doo or poo winner.
Engine - I like the E tec things I have heard plus more power doo the winner
Coming from an 04 I am sure the suspension on both will fee superior I know the XP soaked up the bumps better than the REV
The only two things that have me thinking RMK other than a bit of purchase price savings is the knees thing - I sat on the RMK and I definetly like that better than the doo. and just how easy it is to turn on its side. I wasn't too impressed with the doo in that respect (I think it was a 2010 model that I rode) and all I hear about the Poo is its "flickablity" taking a word from Burandt. Even the poo of two years ago seem to corner nice.

Am I crazy? I know this is the XP forum but has anyone ridden both? I am not into the sled bashing thing I mean I used to ride an 86 Exciter back in the day and I had fun so ride what you got I guess. At $14K a pop its a big decision though.

I haven't rode the pro so I can't help you there but I can tell you that there is a huge difference between the 2010 XP and the 2011-12 with the s-36 front end when it comes to handling. We were out at silver sands on Friday and it was the first time I've had my 2011 out in any real powder snow so I didn't know what to expect. Now im far from an experienced mountain rider, but I had no trouble putting that sled wherever I wanted: it carved like a dream, changed lines with a quick flick of the bars, and once I got that "wrong foot forward" technique figured out I was sidehilling with absolute confidence. Hopped on a 2010 that was in our group because buddy wanted to try mine out, and I felt like a monkey f#%king a football on that thing. I couldn't do anything with it, and it took almost an hour to get my sled back...obviously he liked it too. Not sure about the whole hitting the knees thing; I'm a fairly tall guy (6'0 mostly legs) and I haven't bashed my knees on my sled once. We must have different riding styles I guess. Hope this gives you something to think about, I'm sure you will enjoy whatever you end up with!
