Fighting Alberta Public Land Closures - What next?

ABM It's happening right now in Hinton area... Many "fines" will likely be handed out this weekend...

Saw some new signs today. What all is getting closed up?

I've looked and can't find anything but temporary closures in the cadomin area. Unless there is something I am missing?

As for handing out fines, I think its a good thing, far too many believe they can get on an atv and head into wilderness and do as they please, if there would have been a significant level of enforcement for those in the back country starting say 20 years ago do you really think we would be in the position we are today?

I've been doing a tonne of digging on it as well, there was a post put out by the Yellowhead County MLA's facebook that kind of looked like it was more towards the north than south..... I'm not positive though, maybe reach out to the Hinton ATV club?

I feel the whole issue comes down to a matter of what % compliance is acceptable?
No matter what group it is , you will never have 100% compliance following laws !
We still have speeders/ bank robbers / murderers etc etc ....
I personally believe that we have a small percentage that do make a mess of things ... so do we ban the other 95%?
That's like saying 10 people died on snowmobiles this year , so let's ban them all ....
While more fines and more enforcement may sound good , we are dreaming if we think it will 100% stop the issues we are having .

We need a portion of the proceeds put back into education , trail management and sustainability... directed by only the user group involved .
I think we are dealing with a social agenda issue , more than a scientific fact based problem .

This may be the case in southern Alberta, but up here non-compliance runs rampant, no plates or insurance, crossing of stream-beds, washing atv's in creeks, entering off limits area or private property. Now of course there are many that do follow the rules, but also a significant number that don't.

I agree there is too much ...
And that's where education would certainly help...
As for no plates and ins , heavy fines ... there is no excuse there ..
As of last year directly crossing a steam was perfectly legal if part of an existing trail.
Now running up and down it is not ... should be a big fine !
There is a great example of education needed to prevent these mistakes ...
All in all though I agree , we need more compliance through a variety of means ..

that's all I can find as well, and if its a PLUZ restriction its probably been in place but not enforced for a long period of time.

What I could find was this one was created in 1999, but of course is now starting to be enforced more.

I really don't think that even 100% compliance would sway the NDP. They are in bed with the multi-billion dollar environmental groups and will not listen to anyone or any other point of view no matter how valid or true. There is no compromise with Notley's crew and real science does not factor into their agenda. Someone posted some charts on S&M showing the improvement of the old man river watershed quality in the last 10 years. I sent that to Shannon Philips. Guess what? - no response.

Id guess it would come down to supporting an administration that is OHV friendly...
Frankly I'm all for western separation however the next and only best option at this point is Brian Jean/Wild rose..

Just imagine the "impact" if the whole "outdoors community" got behind him...

BTW, I'm now a wild rose member, $25 for three years...and i didn't see anyone else (govt types) show up at the Edmonton Rally at the legislature..

Did every one forget that it was the conservatives that closed kananaskis to motor sports in the 70's or early 80's? Also that the start of the closure for castle was started under the conservatives though hastened by the ndp? I'm by no means an ndp lover or a Jason Kenney supporter but all it takes is a look at the past 50 years (of conservative rule) to realize this is not just an ndp problem. Devils advocate.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that the original plan for Kananaskis was far from how it turned out. It wasn't supposed to be treated like a national park, but I don't know what changed it

Just a heads up friends, this OHV thing also reflects on the Hunters and other out-door activities.

Kinda sad too think that folks with disabilities will not get the chance too explore the far reaches of crown lands that folks who can walk.

I'll deffinatly let my many disable friends know that they can at least view the mountains from a distance since they will never get the chance too go fishing back there since their disability will not allow it to happen.

I'm guessing the tree folks and GOA did not think this threw.
Folks with aliments / disabilities will feel this impact first hand I'm guessing.
