Day one was a little tough on the trees. Rod and Steve helped me log a few. Not sure why Barry is picking on me with these pictures. I was told this was the quick way to the parking lot from Belle Cabin. :d Great conditions and a great group to ride with.

Cheers,

Mike.

Well it was a blue bird day today, snow is great. The avy situation is becoming stable IMO. Nobody has been to Spirit Lake in a few days or into Winburger at all. I don't think the main slide path in winburger has slid yet and posses a threat. Ant Hills have hardly been hit at all, and only a few sleds have rode past the Stair case. This was truly an epic day in McBride "to quote the great one of SNM". Snow levels are where they should be, quite a difference from our last trip before chritmas. I'm just sorry that nobody has come to share the experience with us, only 15 sleds up Renshaw today.

What are you calling the "the stair case?"
I'm calling "the stair case" the pass just to the right of the saddle which brings you out on the lake. When you come back to the cabin from the back side it's kind of like a set of stairs. Maybe I don't have the right name for it?

Here is a picture of the saddle (left) and switchbacks (center). The first time I went down the switchbacks was this year. We came back out through the saddle, so I'm not sure how the switchbacks would be to climb out through. Definitely a lot of quick vertical sections, but also a few flatter spots to regain momentum. Probably much easier later in the season than early with a bunch of fresh.

The switchbacks or `staircase` as I call it is like`a groomed trail not very complicated.

hey everyone hows the avalanche risks in mcbride, is it bad or no

The avy risk right now is stable IMO, but snowing right now and rumor has it that it will snow for six days bringing 50cms. that beening said it will increase the risk.

Ok i am with you on the "stairs"
In 1989 we had a polaris 500 that CRAPED its motor. We towed it up "the stairs" and it took us two days to get it through there. There was no cabin and in fact we entered thorugh the ant hills at that time. We took a chance and towed it thorough this stairs and saddle and down the mountain probably close to where the cabin is today. We thought we were gods getting that out of there. Today there is times you could just about drive your pick up to the cabin. All good fun.

on a sunny day. I have been there many times, and there is still an uneasy feeling dropping into the spot in socked in conditions. Unsuredness (is that a word?? LOL)... I guess.

not that I know of, I am thinking the willows would have been to much to fight. now might work as we have more snow.
