Fall Creek Stagin Area

Hi Everyone,
I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all who used the Fall Creek campground this may long weekend.
In 2005 I made the effort to raise money to repair the campground after the big flood that went though in June. I was able to secure $17,000.00 in funding, equipment and material from Northrock resources. We built 17 camp sites with a loading area, fire wood crib and information Kiosk.
Until this year the area was usually a big mess after the may long weekend and it would take us about 3 days to clean it up hauling back and forth to the Rocky dump.
This year I went for a quick trip to the campground to do the usual assessment and was overcome with shock. The campground was left in great shape and hardly any mess was left behind. Other than the weekend warriors who cut down trees right in the campground it was nice to see that the users packed out what they brought it and that there was a definite show of respect for the land.
Again, thanks to all who use the area and took care of it.

Miracles can happen!!!! Any word on the closure of the falls creek road to on hiway vehicles as I have heard? Mainly to keep 4x4ers out.

Ive been in touch with Kevin Heartwell and Wayne Crocker over at SRD. The last word is that the reclaimation is tenative for this summer from km 12 to 23 including the BP location. Kevin has been working with BP to develop a plan to leave a harden trail in place for the users, excluding 4x4 trucks.
But right now there is a bit of an arm wrestel about liability for the ATV bridges which was one of the methods to control traffic types who use the trails. I will touch base with the fellas to see if anything has transpired over the past couple of months and post it on the site.

I see, i had heard that it would be a 4x4 closure like the one on the road that goes to the Gap,,, inpassable to 4x4s but ATV accessable,,,,, I also had heard the dry creek road was being closed as well,,,,,, I am having some issues with Jeepers on my Tour trails but not much I can do,,, thats what you get for cutting back windfall to keep green riders from hitting them,,,,,,,, it becomes a Jeep trail,,,,,,, now I will only cut wide enough for quads!!!!!

You guys and your bloody quads....it's crown land for god sakes!! Stop whinning about it. We all dont' have the money for a truck and a quad and a trailer! Jeez what a bunch of bull!

And I've been on those trails many times, the quads make as much of a mess as jeeps do.

I tell you what...I would be happy to show you the damage "difference" between 5000lb trucks running 44" tires v/s quad, rhino's and bikes...in fact Falls Creek is a prime example...thanx for the work you "local people whom ride every weekend and can see the damage" have done over the past couple of years..lots of people have lots of "comments" about what does what damage...funny how they never come out to help do repairs..the "long weekend warriors" whom come to our backyard and "know it all"..that's the true BS..we see it every year, come out for a good time and leave the messes and damage to the locals.. OH, and by the way, it may be crown land..but that doesn't mean they're gonna keep it open!!!!!!!!

Let me remind you of something....not all jeeps have 44 inch tires, not all jeepers go out to your area and tear the place up, leave a mess, and hit the road. My off road club practices tread lightly. And lets also not forget who invented the off road hobby, it was WW2 vets coming home from the war with military issued jeeps they purchased off the government. I don't think they had 1000cc rhino's back in the 50's. I don't understand how you can think one vehicle is less or more destructive than the other. I've seen quads chew up a trail as much as a jeep.
And that being said, when I'm on the trail around the Rocky area and I encounter quads I usually get the thumbs up, and they will stop and watch us go through the trail in amazement that we can actually get a vehicle down some of these washed out trails. More than one occasion they have taken pictures of us wheeling on the trails.

So tell me, if you manage to get the jeeps off the trails, who are you going to point the finger at next? The rhino's being to big?
At one time horse riders use to bitch about quads chewing up the trails.

The point of my rant is you don't own the land in the first place, and if they block it off we will just go somewhere else. If you want to make smaller trails with your chainsaw, we will make larger trails with ours. I haven't dumped 10 grand into my jeep to explore the beautiful province to be bitched out by whinney quaders!

Okay....no not all Jeeps have big tires,leave a mess and hit the road..just the ones myself and lots of others have seen..out west in our backyard..WE see the results because WE are out almost EVERY weekend..where do you live?? Oh yeah, says Edmonton, hmmmm, and you say you belong to a club??? Let me ask you this, obviously you ride out here, have you or your "club" ever came out to help do trail maintenance??? I know I have, and so have alot of MOSTLY local people..and they are people riding quads,side-by-sides, and bikes..hmmm, never saw anyone show up in a truck with either small or large tires...and what the h*ll does trucks from WWII have to do with today?? Back then they didn't take them out to ride for recreation..on pounded out trails..I have been riding out at Falls Creek for over 20 years and have seen the devastation get worse and worse..and it has been the "atv" ers that have been trying to keep it rideable..it is "this close" to being shut down..so maybe then you'll be a "whiner"..you're 'probably the same same "group" that think's it's okay to leave garbage and dump your sewer tanks on the ground, beacause it's just the "whiners" whom complain...Hey Safari Guy, you do a ton
of riding..what's your thought?? I know you love to ride as much as me..have seen much help from the "tread lightly" group??? Have you seen them organize any trail maintenance in OUR area??? Just curious..

I ride the west country from southfork to fall creek almost every day. I have logged over 1600 miles this year alone. I can show anyone who cares to see, a creek that I watched 11 jeeps cross in 2006. To this day the ruts are still all along that creek bank for about 150 yards. Because of the ruts the creek has actually sluffed in and also diverted a natural spring. This type of damage will not heal its self ever. Each of the 11 jeeps picked his or her own path across this creek at the time.
My point is that I wittnessed 11 jeeps do the damage of 10,000+ quads in less than 20 minutes. Not all jeeper's are bad people thats forsure but unfortunatley it only takes 11 to give me a lasting impression.
We may not own the land but by god we better treat it like we do or it'll be taken away from us.

Problem is that the only people that will obey the closure laws are the ones that put the effort into trying to maintain what we have. The parasites that ride on the trails (or off the trails) that were created and are maintained by someone else won't stop. It's a matter of respect for the land and the folks who give up their time and sweat and money so they have a place to enjoy.

i know they had the same problem at the braz. resovoir. A guy that worked for srd or something like that was coaching my daughters soccer team. he said that qauders ripped it up pretty good to start with. they spent 10g fixing up the banks of the dams/canals. next weekend four wheelers,knows this because no qaud/rhino is 6ft+wide and leaves 2ft deep ruts, ripped it up worse than it was to start with trying to climb the sides. but like any recreational hobby we all have aholes who make everybody look bad. qaudders have the same types of guys to. but fortunatly qauds don't do quite as much damage. unless you talk to the horse riders.

You know guys, I gave up argueing on the interenet along time ago, this thread was dead till I voiced my opinion on the matter. And of course you're going to be against what I have to say....this is a ATV and Ski Doo site. Saying something negetive about ATV's or ski doo's on a site like this would be like walking into religious group voicing my support of abortion! It's a loose loose situtaion.

To all of you that blame Jeeps and off road vehicles for the condition of your trails F$%ck yourself.

To all of you that realize that there are bad apples riding all different types of vehicles, I agree with you.


The off road clubs of Edmonton do support tread lightly and do make an effort to get out to that area and other areas and do trail clean-up weekends. If you don't believe me just check out the following sites and do a search ECO, Northern Alberta 4wd Association, and Edmonton Jeep Club.

Prime example of 4x4 destruction is Chambers Creek, one ride there and I will never go there again,,,,,,,,, Buddy if you are such a environmental worshoper,,, perhaps look into fixing up the trails that are wrecked for my children and theres,, why do you think the Jeep Jamboree is off the Rocky Map????? because of a $30,000.00 deposit to ride here to fix the trails that are wrecked form the Hard Core!!! Not soft core,,,,,,, I have met jeeps on the trails (I) widened for the safety of my guests and now I am looking at a different way to widen trails for thier safety,,,,,,,, beacause I know that 90% of the 4x4 crowd won't lift a finger to cut the thousands of trees the ATV crowd does. Go widen your own trails and let us ride on them for a change. Foresty asked me where I thought they should ride,,,,,,, I told them where,, and it is a good place. I have even showed some soft core jeepers where some good trails for them are,,,,,,,, and they had a great time,,,,,,, The forest and many trails will be changed in the next 3 years in Prairie creek and I am already set up for it,,,,,,,,, what are you going to do????

Now in a decent world there would be a group of ppl go out in the woods to fix up trails with quads,,, sidebysides and jeeps,, even some horse riders.......... but iven on this site I don't ask for help anymore on trails as there was absalutly 0% intrest over 3 years,,,,, I have a list of Outlaw riders that I get hold of for that.

In the past i have been out with some 4X4 trucks and yes it is alot of fun, but i do believe there is a place to use them and a place to keep them out.
Yes the quads tear things up in some places very badly, however try driving a quad and a jeep side by side for a little while. Then get out and compare the ruts, broken trees, ripped up sod etc (from spinning tires), i will tell you unless you are on hard rocky soil the 4X4 will have the deeper ruts etc. etc.
You may say compare 1 4X4 or jeep to a group of quads (10 or more), i think all would agree that yes the group of quads would tear up a soft area, but a truck etc. would still have deeper ruts.
I will agree with you that many in the trucks etc. are very good and do not go into the very soft spots etc. ,BUT MANY DO NOT.
If you are one of the responsible drivers that know where to be and where not to be, then you are welcome here.......otherwise i'm sure you know where you can go!!
