just pulled the motor on my rev to put in a new short block today. the crank is why the engine is being replaced, but we found another nice suprise when we pulled the head off. the pistons and cylinders looked real nice until we started moving the pistons around and..... the video shows it well. pretty sure i may have been in for some trouble if i hadn't pulled the motor now.

You would be putting new pistons in anyway right?? Don't think i would be installing new short block and not replacing the pistons.

the short block is coming with the pistons, but yes, it was time for pistons any ways, got 2000km out of this top end, 5000km out of the bottom end.

Mic 'em to see what the actual clearance is. I've got a cylinder bore guage good up to 6" bore and a set of micrometers to check clearance as well as cylinder taper and out of round. You need clearance for expansion and what seems like a lot may actually be closer to normal. If I'm doing a 2 stroke engine, it always gets a set of pistons/rings anyways but good idea to know just how much clearance you have.
