I had a 2000 f250 with the 7.3 and then a 2002 f350 with the 7.3 and never had a lick of trouble with either one of them, bullet proof, dependable, great on fuel, ton's of power and then Ford went to the 6.0 and nothing but problems, then the 6.4 and what a pig they are. Eat fuel like no tomorrow....

I run a 2001 Ford F350 crew cab extended frame with the 7.3 l. Have 300000 km's on her. Last 30000 had to replace a high pressure pump for the injectors but otherwise nothing in the engine. Knock on wood. Know I have to change out 2 injectors as truck blows some white at initial start up(caused by bleed by the injector). Have a freind who bought a 2008 Chev 3500 diesel, it sat in the shop for 6 months after the first 1000 km's. Tranny problems that could not be resolved.

I'm surprised no one has suggested swapping in a 5.9 Cummins.

You'd have the best of both worlds IMO. Them Ford interiors are purdy:drool:

Check post #2 in this thread.....;)

Summitric : yup..... You are right...... I would also consider the gm's..... Seem pretty good on longevity too, and can make lots of power as well.

I was thinking it will be tough to find one in that price range < $12k

ford offers extended warranty to 300 000 km on all the diesels you just have to purchase prior to the 160 000 km mark

Thanks for all the advice guys. It sounds like I might be just as far ahead to keep my eye out for a good deal on a running truck.
I could end up deeper in the hole than I want to be trying to swap engines in.

Thanks.:beer::beer:
