when i took ast with frozen pirates they said 30cm for electronics to be from beacon.all my electronics are in glove box of sled except bca radio which is in pack,i have tested with it and cannot find any interference to beacon in transmit or search mode. i have heard people say before that if they need to search they will shut off cell phone,but will they remember for if you witnessed a slide imo that would be the last thing on a persons mind.
on another note if some people in your group pack there electronics in there pocket next to beacon and wont test for themselves to confirm interference and wont listen to what others say about interference,and wont even practise with there beacons ,would you ride with them?

Thats exactly what I thought, My Garmin 650 I carried in my front pocket of my vest so I could here it call if needed. I thought that I would just shut it off. Its not the first thing your thinking when you go out in a search. We were just in training and I didn't remember.

IMO, you don't want to add to the list of things you are thinking when your put to test. I suggest using your gear and getting very familiar with what you have and don't deviate from your dress mode. If your gonna carry a different device that day, put it in your pack and not in your coat pockets.

And just to be clear on the 30 cm rule it is not the distance to where you wear your beacon it is the distance from where your beacon is in your hand while searching. So if you wifi helmet cam is 50 cm while wearing your beacon but 20 cm while actually searching with it that is the distance you need to be aware of while testing for interference.

Another thing to keep in mind with the new iPhone iOS- is that toggling wifi and Bluetooth off doesn’t necessarily turn them off...

Great thread. I will admit i always rode with my cell phone in the upper chest pocket of my jacket for years. After reading this i bought a handlebar bag and any electronics other than my radio (in the pack) will be going in there. Also letting my group know this info and highly suggesting they do the same.
