Engine life across the board seems to be dropping? Or is it just me?

We are talking mountains here! And yes it's more strain for sure but the old mountain motors were better! Granted not 155 hp either. I beleive the oems could do better. The etec seems to be headed the right direction so we will see in a few years. 3000km is not long life riding anywhere in my books.

this thread makes no sense cause every rider is so different there are too many inconsistencies to make any conclusions.if all you do is pull into the bowls and do climb after climb with a wide open throttle i would say 2500km is good enough. With that being said most mountain riders don't do that and a lot of them don't do it at all.I see a lot of guys starting there sled in the parking lot and doing the 100m rip before the sled warms up!!these type of rider will probably decrease the life of there motor significantly. There are a lot of people that do 80% of there mountain riding on trails some faster than others but you can never be WOT for long on a trail.skidoo s 800 ho was 140 hp…a great motor a lot of people think it was way better than the pteck 800.I have never heard of the 800HO lasting past 8000km.(doesn't mean there wasn't any)Then the Pteck came out in 07 at 151 Hp…Mine lasted but a lot of peoples didn't last too long 2500km …maybe 5000km.Now the etch is the current 800 for too and it has 160+ hp and seems to be the lasting most people for a lot of km..Polaris has has improved cause there first 3 years withe the new liberty 800 was a disaster lol.Dont hear of too many poo 800 blowing up prematurely ..Cats are solid so it seems. I would say Its JUST YOU.MY humble 2 cents

I dont mountain ride or can afford a new sled, but have had 2 90s Indy 500s with lot o miles on original motors, first 92 carbed SKS was a trappers sled ,had dam near 20,000 miles on original motor, had newer 2 in track and twin PSI pipes,
second was a 92 EFI 500 I bought last winter with over 12,000 miles on it ,the owner said the speedo quit 5 yrs ago.never missed a beat either, untill it burnt in my garage fire 2 months ago.
my latest 99 RMK 700 shows 5345 miles, 135 lbs compression, previous owner said never been opened up either. still had original plugs in it
3 yrs ago had a 03 800 Vertical escape that was on its third motor, that kinda scared me.a lady hit me at the whitecourt poker rally that didnt have insurance and I sold it for parts.like to find a newer lighter machine, but scared of the motors, like you say, they arnt lasting and poor maintanance.

Maybe but tell that to the 4 guys who have their engines in my shop? And why did the old rotary engines last longer? I had a modded 600 triple that had 5800 km when I sold it and last I talked to guy it was still runnin? That was mountain sled and probly made around 130-140hp? Seems a little funny to me?

What about the yamaha 250? I bet it even beats the 670 skidoo and the 700 yamaha triple. You do not even have to warm up that 250 engine either.

03 RX1.....18,000k when I sold it...dude ran It well over 25,000k and sold it
06 Apex...10,000 k on the odo today
08 Nytro Head shim went at 14k but internals were all fine and it went back together with fresh rings and big end brgs. Now has 20,000k on it.
14 Viper.....1000 K. No issues

All of these sleds have been boosted to max output on pump premium their entire life. I am confident to say I have over 60,000k ++ of boosted 4 Stroke mountain riding with very minimal issues.
One Broken Primary Spider
2 Broken drive chains
1Broken Throttle cable
1 Failed Battery
2 Bad wrecks that required Heli lift

For me and my riding pals......we love the boosted 4 Strokes. Boost and Fuel quality are you best friends.

Safe sledding

I still do ride the yamaha bravo from time to time. It starts one pull with your baby finger. Sold my 670x 12years back and it is still running. I bet the untracked powder is better in central bc than it is in central alberta. One my 3rd motor in my newer sled though.
