I was at Echo on Friday of last week and talking with the parts manager, learned that they are shutting their doors after 32 years in business in Edmonton.

It's sad to see established businesses go, but I guess that is how it goes.

They will be selling off everything in the coming months, hopefully be some good deals coming soon!

I think your going to see this more and more honestly Tyler. It’s sad. Pricing is crazy, the dollar sucks.

I don't follow you. The crazier pricing gets, the more bigger the profits in the margins.

Machines are higher prices thanks to USD/CAD exchange, less people buying in AB. Dirtbikes are being blown out, cheaper prices on KTMs over 2 years ago even with higher MSRP.
You will see more of this yet, hasn’t hit that hard yet as I haven’t seen any smoking deals yet on kijiji deals, just new clearance inventory

The powersports market is flooded. None of these products are made in canada. The dealer makes minimal and sits on a tonne of product. This was discussed in a different thread but it was made clear that the store doesn’t get to pick what and how many pieces of equipment they want. The producer tells them what there sending. I asked, why doesn’t the vendor do snow-check only. It would keep the value up and keep it really simple. Until then Rec sports stores are going to suffer. We’re going they it right now in GP. Polaris dealer, sold. Gone. Merging with the Yamaha dealer in town. Gp was number 2 for snowcheck in Alberta I was told for 2018. Maybe number one.

I heard they were right up there for 2019 snowchecks. I think they got their numbers up and sold high while the getting was good

I never dealt there till they built the fancy new shop out west .Really nice place ,real handy for us country folk, but it never seemed very busy. Too bad, was handy to buy last minute parts when I wrecked stuff.

They aren’t shutting down due to poor sales and going out of business or bankruptcy. They are going out of business due to half the ownership wanting to retire and the other half looking to go a different direction, start fresh. They looked at selling but probably don’t wanna have to wait on trying to find a buyer, it may take awhile. Yes the industry has slowed and due to that there would be fewer people with the deep pockets looking to buy their business so I see why they just decided to close the doors. This way they can be done when they want and on their own terms. If they went the selling the business route they could end up having to run it for a couple more years and when you just don’t want to anymore the business will suffer driving down its value.

Maybe some of these dealers should concentrate on good customer service and not these big fancy store fronts that cost a fortune.

The Oem's are making the dealers revamp there storefronts or they stand to lose their franchise potentially.

I think these manufacturers need a reality check, if the numbers can't work why would anyone stay in business. And I'm not bashing echo cycle, never shopped or dealt with anyone from there. They must have been doing something right if they were able to stay open for 32 years. Just going from my experiences in Calgary.

Sylvester has no machines sitting around so that’s a given who it was
Saskatoon- I dunno but I’d bet Guertin ?
