Had a logging truck driver tie into us one day how owls head was for locals and we should not be there... When we got back we had broken mirrors,were not alberta friendly

Your lucky. cause i have seen truck and trailer dozer'ed into the ditch with serious damage and no charges could be laid and generally cannot be laid, they own the road's.
IF THEY ARE LOGGING STAY THE HELL OUT. You have NO business being in there. Logger's are a breed of there own, don't mess with them or you will be sorry.
They some what tolerate local's as most people in these small communities know each other, but they don't care for out of towner's and really most don't give a rip about sledder's that are just out to have fun. They make a living logging and many it's their life line and sledder's are more of a pest to them.

Me too, i work with some logger's, my brother inlaw is a logger.
They are people like you and i, it really depend's on who that logger is and his mood i guess.
I personally stay out of their way. Especially if there is a warning sign saying so, not worth it.

Plus i believe ICBC will not cover you on any mountain road journey's, it is at your own risk. As for active logging road's, the insurance is carried by the logging contractor.....so good luck on trying to collect, especially if your not really suppose to be there. In contrary if your believed to be a cause of an accident with the logging operation, such as a logging truck going in the ditch. They will go after you for damages. I know of one occasion of this happening with a crummy work truck and in reality they were responsible for causing the accident. Coming down too fast and wiped out the going up sledder truck. Sledder truck ended up paying 100% everything. Took almost a year to settle, they still lost.

Any one riding tomorrow the 29th? Looking to tag along with someone up owlhead or close to sicamous. Even just a half day to get out and put a mile or two on the new sled. I just gotta try to pick up a new snow scooper in the morning if somewhere is open in town. Text me if you up for it. 4038756one three zero

I had heard that a few sledders were misdirected up Blue Lk road the other day, with their trailers! No doubt the loggers would be PO'd if this were the case as there really isn't anywhere to park trailers up top and it is a active logging site in the Blue Lk area. I encountered a couple of log trucks the one day I was up and they waved and were quite friendly, but then I wasn't blocking the road with a vehicle either. I too know loggers and they are not A Holes, but it only takes one to ruin it for everyone else. The trail is groomed right to Blue Lk cabin by the Club now so I don't see why anyone would be interfering with the loggers unless the sledders are where they are not supposed to be..........Sherm

He told me about the new access from owls head. I havent been in the area forever so I had no idea.

It wouldnt hurt to put it on the blue lake page. I double checked it on my phone when we were heading out there and it confirmed the old location. How would a person know to go to a different page to double check that? Just a suggestion. Not that hard of change to make.

you are right
or have a reference on the area page to check the grooming and snow conditions as access is only allowed on quest during weekends and before that it was noted that chains were required to get to the 2 km parking lot on owls and truck and enclosed blocked the trail.

It's funny I can easily find the info on the Blue Lk access on the site and the Queest info as well. Maybe a big red highlighted flashing box would help.

As far as chaining up to get to 2km with a trailer, the road covered in ice would have been the first clue. But we are not adults and need to be policed I guess.

It's been chains to all the areas for 3 weeks now till the snow friday nite

What's wrong with telling people the road is icy and chains are required for parking at km 2 with a trailer? Might save someone from driving an hr or two with their 30' enclosed for nothing.

Just going to repeat what I was told, is that they told the attendant they had chains. No idea if that's true. But that is common. The attendants there are typically mindful of the road conditions.

Anyways, I don't see how updating something on the Internet is going to make it better unless it's spoon fed to everyone. How many people don't check the website as it is for updates? At what lengths does the club need to go to in order to get the info out to everyone? There will always be that one guy who doesn't bother to look for the info. Is there not signs on the Yard Creek road to Blue Lk saying there is active logging?

As tex78 mentioned the Sicamous Sled site is updated with where to go and where not to go, so can't put any blame there. That and seeing that Blue Lk road is plowed to the dirt might give one the idea that it isn't being used by sleds right now. As far as the icy road at Owl's, I personally think it should have been sanded sooner, would have saved quite a few problems not just on the 26th but before that as well. With respect to the chaining up, it was mentioned at the bottom of the hill by the trail pass person but there is no mandatory chain up and you can't expect the trail pass person to enforce that rule with the sledders, it just wouldn't work. The unfortunate thing that happened that other day was someone "thinking" they could go where they couldn't, a learning experience for some youngens and a PITA for allot of other sledders. One look at the tires on the truck involved and I wouldn't have been surprised if it got stuck in the bottom parking lot on the flat, on dirt! Big tires and lugs don't work so well in winter sometimes, but that's just an old guys opinion..... Sherm

The lady said he tried to tell who ever she said go up, when she said not to go up as it's icy for trucks with decks even

It was dirt that day, I'm sure after seeing that they said fawk it

Even with chains that truck, no weight in box, pulling too big of enclosed is retarded

Plus the 2 km lot doesn't have room to turn that byotch around pretty much
