Duramax LMM diesel smell under the hood

2009 Duramax 75k on it. Last couple days coincidental with this cold snap I can smell raw diesel under the hood. Haven’t had a chance to start poking around yet but are there any known problem areas for fuel system leaks on these trucks? Called GM service this morning and they said they’ve never heard of a problem like this. Quote “never heard of something like this extremely uncommon” lol

Id be checking the fuel filter... The water separator/sensor on the bottom of the filter are cheap plastic. Maybe it's got a crack

The filter's due for change so hopefully see if it's leaking there this weekend. Seems to be starting normally so I don't think it's leaking on the high pressure side, could be return lines though. Still under diesel engine & drivetrain warranty till June next year so hopefully it's covered.

could be the filter or a fuel connection. when it's cold like this out things contract, I've had it happen on the KW before. usually it's coolant line connections but have had the fuel filter leak at the sealing gasket. had the little tap at the bottom of the water separator leak before too, sucked air and the engine quit on me.

I've noticed since it got stupid cold that I can smell just a hint of diesel exhaust in the cab on my 13 Ram

On gm's the fuel filter o-rings are famous for leaking..... Change the fuel filter and a new o-ring is included....... We've done 3 or 4 already this winter that were complaining of a fuel smell under the hood

That's weird for something so "extremely uncommon" Maybe Stg2Suby needs to find another shop to take his truck to.

My problem on my 2006 was a return hose on the drivers side fuel rail, the hose is bent into the shape of a U and goes from the drivers side rail to the fuel return block where the passenger side return line and drivers side meet. GM wanted $160 for a 3" long formed piece of hose. I went to part store got a high pressure fuel injection hose to match the diameter. Cost 50 cents.

Twice now in the past year I have had a return line just pop off the top of the injector on my 04. You would probably notice it though because diesel pours out. No cost to fix. Hint, don't drop the retainer clip, took me 2 hours to find that dam thing.

2008 duramax with a 135,000 km after a hour of truck on fast idle to warm up in -35 weather i had code p003a come on. After doing research it seems to be a vane related turbo problem any help or advice how to deal with this problem or fix? erased code sunday and hasn't came back on. I'm thinking cause of cold temp maybe a little bit of condensation in turbo caused the vane to ice up or stick, or vane position sensor.

Stock exhaust? I'm surprised you didn't plug up your DPF idling that long and go into limp mode

Even in -35 you dont need to idle your truck that long. 20-25 mins is plenty. Its not going to get much warmer unless you drive it.
