Anyone have any experience with fixes to this problem? Do I need to modify my intake or could I add a foam cover or something to keep the snow off the filter but be changed easily?

I use AFE filter with sock on my cummins never any issues. Never a bad idea to have gauges on a diesel to catch things early.

Watch those after market filters, they can let dust in. If you can see through them they are no good.

99.7% filtration they claim, plus adding the sock I can't see much particles getting through. Still have t keep and eye and clean them roughly 3x/yr

Filters like KN that require oiling are bad for diesels, too many particles get through. If this is a good dry filter yyou should be fine.

You duramax guys should consider picking up another air box cover from a guy that did a cold air, drill a bunch of 1" holes in it so you pull some warm air from underhood in winter.

My '06 was like that when I bought it. Also did the PPE airbox mod to it and never had an issue with plugging in snow. Still carried a backup filter anyway, but never needed it.
