Drive Chain Question- OEM or Aftermarket?

My chain has 7000km, need to change it out. The yami chain is $220.00!!! Aftermarket chains run about 100.00 bucks. Are they any good?

Id say if you want another 7000km you better buy stock. I change my chain at the start of every year, about 2500km. But thats with 19lbs of boost. I broke one at about 1500km one winter but I didn't check my tension from the time I installed it. (My Fault)

I agree, if you got 7000kms from an OEM chain, a couple of hundred bucks is a bargin.

Agreed. Yamaha has great OEM quality! And the prices have recently dropped considerably. 7000km I'd say you got your moneys worth!! haha Well done!

Upon further inspection of the stock chain, the name morse was written on every second link. It appears morse builds chains for yamaha and can be purchased for $100.00 bucks!?

So, like a meathead, I ordered the cheaper one. It was team 70 link 3/4" wide borg warner silent chain. I removed the chain from the bag and compared it to the used one. The used oem chain from yamaha with 7000km nasty kms on it was "like new" compared to the "new" low quality chain that I got. The new chain was a piece of crap compared to the used yami chain. So i will return it and get what I should have in the first place, yami oem chain.

Hmmm...I put a Team chain in mine and the one I pulled out looked identical, but worn more. (Maybe there was an aftermarket chain in there already, I bought the sled used)

Borg Warner is a well built drive chain, has been for years. I have run it on my Nypex for the last 2 years, shows no wear at all. Borg Warner and Morse are of the same company. I have sold lots with no problems at all. Shad

They may be the same company, but there definitely is a difference between the team and oem, just compare the two. I could'nt believe the difference. If the team is lasting, the oem should last longer with fewer problems. (broken chain) Is it worth the extra $100.00 bucks, not sure but heli rides are pricey.:d

Biggest cause of chain breakage is lack maintenance IMO. Dont see a alot of Yamaha's coming through my door with piled up chaincases, pretty strong units. Loose chains and dirty oil. We change out our drive chains out every 2 years depending on km,s and the unit sometimes every year on high HP units. I can source Morse chains through others suppliers than Yamaha too. The Morse does look more beefy for sure, just never had any problems with the Borg Warner either. Good info. Happy Sleddin

I put 3900 miles on a rt1000 skidoo in 1 year. never did the chain in all that time. bought a chain "just in case" still sittin on shelf, will install next week ... $110 including tax. just stripped down a 2005 rt1000. oil looked bad, chain is perfect with 21 tooth top cog and 49 bottom. chain is fine, but for $110 = fark it off !!!

Nice to get that much riding in ! but there is a difference between a TNytro and a Rt1000 in the power department I would think.

I have another vote for OEM. My dealer recommended to me to change out my chain at 2500km on the turbos. When I reached 2500km I did as they recommended and I have that chain as an emergency spare still. I am now at 5000km and will be changing the chain again. Preventative maintenance never hurts. Have a good season.

Myself and another guy I ride with both blew non yammie chains last year after digillently changing them after a couple seasons, mine happened to be in area 51 blew a hole in the case as well good times, buy the yammie chain its worth it.
