I would be interested in the dragon numbers sold in 08 compared to 850's this past year. Seeings how that's what this thread is about.

There are many factors that could be involved in your question about the numbers question between a 08 dragon and the 17 850. The 2007 dragon 700 was a good sled so many people would take a chance on the 2008 800 but the 2008 xp came out as well to draw interest and it also caused it's owners it's own grief. What was the economy like in 2008 I think it was ok and the drop of oil would have impacted 09. The economy is bad but there are a lot of 850s on the hill.

Also financing is different today then in 08. I wonder how many people signed 5 year deals on theirs? See lots of people on those big machines that really shouldn't be, but they have the $350/month so why not

Good points. I had a lot of fun on that dragon of my buddy's. In the end he hit a rock. The engine wasn't it's final demise. My last 3 trips to the mountains I've seen a tonne 850's. Numbers don't lie though. If you see 20 850's, 8 poo's and 2 yamahas your bound to here more about an 850. GOOD OR BAD.

850 Summits were in limited supply as well this past year. It wasn't a full build like this coming year. Not sure on Dragon scenario in the year they came out.

In 07 Polaris had the 700 & very rare 900. If you see 20 of any one single brand on the hill and maybe only 1 or 2 of a different brand all it takes is someone to notice the 1 of 20 that broke down and then they are all labeled as crap. I can honestly saw I have never (knock on wood) been pulled off the mountain in any of my machines, maybe its luck, maybe its how I ride or how I look after my equipment but at the end of the day I have seen every make get towed.

I find it funny, that someone wants to compare a 10 year difference in sleds......

I have a 10 dragon, bought new, still have (only sled I own) and never an issue. The ECU went under warranty and when I was riding in Revy. I rode it down, with minimal troubles....
Had a 04 Rev HME, which dropped the crank in Elkford and towed out about 15K
I have no inclinations of owning a newer Doo, so I can't comment. Other than ALL of the g4 threads.....

Other than that........ Go ride, enjoy and repeat :)

I installed the fixkit on my '10 Dragon. 3000kms later of mountains and flat landing, I sold it to a kid that is still riding it. I like bashing Doo's, but this is a bit early to pull out the baby seal hunting kits.

Ya to soon to pick a winning looser. This is still the 850's first year.
Let's let some longevity issue creep into the picture yet like rear wheel and driver bearings from running a tight track over a 6 tooth driver.

Pull out the seal club next season!
Let the pup have a full year!

Then take the club to Valcourt.........where it's needed the most.

The op title of this thread is dragon or 850...the first dragon was a 2007 700 very far from a flop. It could have been the best sled out there at the time the 2007 rev ptec 151hp although popular and powerful was not very reliable.

Buddy took at least 3 engines out of his 07 700 dragon I was there for all of them, another took 5 out of his 05 900rmk shop was getting pissed off that they lifetime warrantied the engine while he owned it. My deep hatred towards Polaris started in those years the 850 defiantly has a ways to go to get dragon status. It is a piss off for those that buy them that's for sure but from what I read the 850 is so hit and miss I rode one on the weekend it was awesome but I'm not buying a belt engine bulk head eating machine anytime soon.

700 problems are very few and far between. Not much argument with the ol' 900's, they were hard to keep going. I haven't ever read any of the posts regarding the issues the 850s have because it really doesn't effect me one way or the other but there certainly seems to be a few threads regarding them with high number of posts.

In our group sometimes the towed sled just ran out of gas.....he spent his money on beer instead of 91 octane lol

So this weekend alone I saw: a Pro burn to the ground, a cat getting towed by a new 18 cat, a blown up ktm 300, and heard reports of a blown up 850.

What does all that mean?
