So, I was at Bruderheim on Monday with some friends, and was wondering if my quad is supposed to look like this?

What happened?

We were just cruising down one of the sand trails, and my tire caught the edge. It twisted the bars, and apparantly the tie rod. Didn't drive very well at all, so I had to get a buddy to drag me backwards to the truck. It was only about 1/2 mile, and in the sand, so I knew that it wouldn't be TOO hard on the tires, and everything else. It was down pouring again, and near the end of the day, so we loaded up and went home.

Fix 'er up and do it again!:D

12$ fix bro.. been there done that now i carry 2 spares :p just buy the yamaha replacement they are hollow and made to give in so something does before it snaps your wheel off.

easy replacement just make sure your tires are strait when you put the new one on. and SLIGHTLY toe them out about 1/4-1/2 inch on each side to keep the steering easy. (steers hard with slight toe in)

Good luck with your repair.

oh and btw.. when your saw it I bet you went HOLY SHHHHH%^*%# .. I know i did i thought i wrote er off at first.

also i think this happens to grizzlies because they come non tightened and the shop is supposed to adjust your wheels when they mount the tires.. but if they dont tighten them nuts up they can slowly toe out more and more and more ..

reason i think this is because ive found about 7 Yamaha ATV's with loose tie rod nuts.

although yours kinda looks like a kodiak

Yeah, 450 Kodiak. The tie rod is supposed to be $56 though, what did you replace for $12?

i replaced the tie rod at Yamaha and installed it myself for my grizzly. they should be the same thing man. 12$

its the steering arm rod right . you screw it in and it comes off.

it seperates from the ball jointed connectors on the ends you just loosen off the nuts and turn the rod and it will come away from them

It is just the rod. Maybe I will have to tell them that I don't need all that other stuff...

leonard, you will have to tell me where you buy your parts. As you can see, the only thing I got was the straight tie rod, and it was still $55. At that price, I will be straightening the old one and keeping it as a spare...

Maybe because it's "Genuine Yamaha Parts". You know, 400% markup...

Honestly, I would put most of the cause of that on the Mud Light tires.

I have seen many times where the handle bars go into full lock and many Tye rods and axles broke with quads running the Mud Light tires.
