if I remember correctly, if you dont have a valid drivers license they wont allow you to operate a haul truck.
So with my 36c I'll be over paid???

Honestly...... I have a friend who has been with teck, for 5 years. His wife's Dad, has been their all his life. Just like every job.... there is pros & cons. I have considered Teck, for the last 3 years, but haven't made the commitment.

Man that would be a really stupid rule. " so I see you drive a PT cruiser in your personal life? Welcome Aboard, you start Monday! Now this truck is around 250-300 tons heavier than your car, but if you hold a class five drivers licence you'll be just fine". LOL!

Actually it's not really that stupid.

All major heavy mining companies have this rule for a reason.

At a point in time you may be required to access or cross a roadway that falls under provincial or federal regulation.

Thus applies for Motor Graders, scrapers, rock truck so basically anything on rubber tyres (tires).

It would be even stupider to assume somebody who cant get or hold a drivers license for that PT Cruiser should be just fine to operate that ore truck.

Having a valid license doesnt mean you get the job, it just means if you dont have one you cant get the job.

Teck and others look for PEs sometimes and I wonder like others what would the wife do. Thought about haul trucks, is there a need for drivers still? Any idea of wages? It was an option I have sure thought about.

I am curious about wages for tradespeople too?? I also wonder about the real estate market in these areas and how everyone likes living in the interior also.

Seems they are ALWAYS hiring..... OHS position seems to be a revolving door, that is usually a very bad sign. I've considered it off & on since my first trip to Fernie

LBZ.... it's going to be your wifes lack of a DL more so than lack of experience..... mind you the UofA, NAIT, BCIT etc... have somewhat flooded the OHS market.

We will be hiring an HSA/Junior Advisor in RD here soon but without a valid DL we would/could not hire, in 95% of your safety positions mobility will be a condition of employment.

Which one?
According to their website they are looking for HD Mechs for all their operating mines. Greenhills is the only non-union one but it honestly wouldn't matter to me which one I went to.

Biggest thing is getting the wife a job. She is a certified OH&S grad from U of A fresh out of school and can't find a job anywhere as a safety admin or safety advisor. Everyone wants like 2 or more years experience and a valid DL which she doesn't have even though she has worked in the trades and as a medic, safety watch, and a couple other similar positions for the last 7 years. Frustrating for her.

She will have it here in a couple months or so probably but won't be able to drive company vehicles (due to conditions).
Good chance she may just end up working as a consultant till that is all done.

I would like to apologize for a poor attempt at humour, but I can now see you are all very serious here. I retract this statement and regret having interrupted this conversation, thank you for your time.
