Does anyone carry and use a chainsaw these days????

This is starting to give me a pet peeve now. Every time I go riding in different areas now if feels like we are doing the trail for the first time in years with all the downed trees. I burn through a tank of fuel on my chainsaw every ride. Even going to the rock. You go up the last hill to the rock and had to crank it hard right as 4 trees had fallen on the normal route and no one cut them until we went through. It was obvious they had been there awhile. Stanger and Long Island Lake was the same way. Seems like no everyone just prefers to make their own trail around the trees instead of cutting them down. What gives????

Not many will do trail maintance when they ride, they just go around it or don't use specific trails. I usually carry my saw and do lots of cutting. Not sure why others don't, would be nice up keep for the trails

I've wondered the same thing......as I followed the new trail around the trees instead of cutting them out. I chalk it up to laziness, for me at least.

If only everyone realized that making new ways around instead of doing a little work and only having one designated trail is one of the reasons Greenies are trying to restrict our use.
Every meeting I was ever at their biggest argument was the increasing amount of damage motorized users are causing, especially when there is more than one trail going the same place.
As is always the case we are our own worst enemies.

I carry my little Husky in my trpper box but only on the trapline not in BC

If everyone did a little it would be a big deal, I get that it can take lots of miles out of your ride to constantly be cutting brush, but a hand saw and cut 1 or two a trip, take a chain saw and cut half a dozen or so. At times I don't get out much some time a couple years then when I do trails have started to grow in and you can see no traffic, clean it all up and everyone returns. Some should use the rule I only get a beer after I have used my saw, think how clean it would be ��

The winds this year have sure done a number on the trails for sure. I ride single track dirt bike trails mostly, I'm going to pack a little hand saw in my camoback next year.

7" Lift, 35's, and 16 lbs of boost. I either go over or through most things on the trail with the Mav
But I have been thinking about getting a saw to take for when it gets narrow. Bumpers are really taking a beating when needing to eek out a little extra wiggle room. Bike has the turning radius of a bus.
Hopefully Mrs. Claus gets me a nice light battery operated one to take on the SxS and for when on the bike. Been looking really hard at them. Might have to start dropping hints.
But as mentioned above the wind has really put lots of hurt on the trails lately. I know here in the Mac its been bad after our last windstorm. With all the burned/dead trees the trails are rough. Plus sawing through those are like trying to cut rock.

IF nobody had a beer until they used their saw all of western Canada would probably be clear cut by now lol

One of my issues is the mount. I have a quick way of getting the saw in and out but it gets muddy. To keep it clean it takes forever to remove, cut and get back into place. I don't cut everything on the trail but do cut a lot. I hope people will see this and start using their saws more and more.

I carry mine quite often. I made up a wooden box for the back of the quad, sectioned it off for the saw and a corner for other goodies. Lined it in carpet so it does not beat up the saw and it stays clean and dry.

Ya not very many people around here carry a saw or any tool to do a little maint.. maby 1 in 100. Iv been through 2 saws now for trail maint. First one was a off brand and got a good bit of use before it started failing. Replaced it with a stihl. Mad a mound for the front of my machine. Things get covered in mud consistently and still work everytime

I always carry a saw. Just spent the last five days clearing sled trails near Whitecourt. If you do cut downed trees please cut them back to the tree line. It might be you that hits the tree end with your sled!

In the early sledding season, I carry a small Stihl on my tunnel. Also, after we have a wind event I carry it for the first couple of rides. I hate having to cut blow downs by hand and many times the trees are in places that you can't go around.

i carry mine it got used quite a bit three rides ago our first one after a very damaging wind storm.

My saw is always on my rzr and pretty well gets used every ride. The one thing I noticed is quite a few only cut out the trail just wide enough for their machine instead of cutting back to the trail edge. Another thing you seem to see is the cuts aren't square and with the smaller trees you end up with sharp spears hanging into the trail.

I too always have my saw on my RZR. It also drives me nuts when people cut just enough for their machine to get through! And yes please make your cuts square!

I've always got mine on the rear rack, came with a plastic case so one bungie and it's out. We usually drag the cut piece to where people have been going around to discourage anyone else using the go around. We have spent many hours over the years cutting and winching/dragging logs especially in the early spring, and yes we cut it back beyond the trail on both sides.
